Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 18 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Burton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikio Okita! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burton uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Okita. Okita throws a big shot that misses. Okita misses with an uppercut
and Burton makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Burton pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jack Burton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Burton tries to sprawl but Okita drives through with a takedown into half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Burton keeping hold of Okita's head, controlling as best he can. Burton tries to get to full guard but Okita has control of the leg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Okita wants to pass to mount but Burton is defending the position. Okita is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Burton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Burton won't allow Okita to pass to mount. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's one minute gone in the round. Burton wants to improve his position but Okita is controlling well.
Okita wants to control but Burton is keeping him busy. Burton regains full guard. Nicely done. Okita tries to free his leg and advance position but Burton is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Okita works over Burton with some ground and pound from guard. Okita controlling from the top position. Burton looking for a sweep. Not yet Burton, not yet. Okita looking to pass the guard. Burton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Okita won't allow Burton to sweep him here. Okita pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burton is keeping the position for now. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Okita won't allow Burton to sweep him here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Burton controls Okita momentarily but Okita frees himself. Okita advances to half guard. Okita passes to full mount! Burton is looking to get to half guard. Burton wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Okita is trying to stick to Burton's back but Burton is turning into Okita. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Okita's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Burton.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burton is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Okita is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Okita has escaped and now he's on top! Burton can't keep his opponent in guard - Okita advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Okita is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Burton! Burton is trying desperately to improve position. Burton is working hard here to advance position. Burton has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Burton tries to roll but Okita sticks to his back.
Okita lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
You can see the frustration on Burton's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Okita doesn't have the hooks in and Burton manages to turn into his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Okita looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Okita keeping moving, preventing Burton from controlling successfully. Okita looking for a sweep. Not yet Okita, not yet. Okita is looking for a triangle but Burton pushes his legs off easily.
Burton wants to control from the top but Okita keeps moving. Okita escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Burton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Burton looking to pass the guard. Okita looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mikio Okita dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Okita keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Burton. A slow jab from Burton misses its intended target. Burton takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Burton ducks under a wild hook from Okita. Burton throws an overhand right that lands on Okita's shoulder, as Okita tries to avoid the shot. Burton misses with a jab, cross combination.
Burton missing with a left hand there. Okita was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Burton jabbing away but nothing is landing. Burton misses with a lunging right hand
and Okita counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Okita with a body punch. A glancing blow. Okita misses the jab. Okita fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Burton manages to avoid it. Okita misses with a body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Okita with a nice cross. Okita throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Okita works the jab nicely. Good work by Okita as he checks the leg kick. Okita is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Burton. Okita closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Burton did well to prevent Okita getting side control. Burton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Burton is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Okita pulls his head out easily. The fighters are battling for position here. Burton manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Burton looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Okita puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Burton is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Okita frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Burton can't escape the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Okita with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Okita looking to break Burton's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Burton remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Okita will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Okita is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Burton defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Okita looking for the RNC. Burton tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Okita trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Okita winds up and cracks Burton with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Okita is thwarting Burton's attempts to control the position. Burton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Okita throws out a powerful jab. A low kick from Burton is predictable there and Okita counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Burton! Burton tries to hold on but Okita pushes him away. Burton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Okita is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Burton knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Burton for a finish. Jack Burton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

This has been an exciting period of action! Burton trying to control the position from guard on top but Okita is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Okita swivels though and keeps the full guard. Okita is trying to keep Burton in close.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Okita looking for a sweep. Not yet Okita, not yet. Okita trying to control the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Burton's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that's the end of the fight! Mikio Okita comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Okita has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
