Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jordan Mutch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gideon Draper! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mutch throws a series of punches but Draper moves out of range. Some wild striking there from Mutch.
Mutch throws a nice looking combination but Draper bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A combination from Mutch does no damage. Draper takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Draper bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mutch's head backwards. Jordan Mutch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Draper jabs at Mutch's body. Jab from Draper. Mutch comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Draper moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mutch blocks a head kick by Draper.
Mutch misses with a hook. Draper ducked under it nicely. Draper just misses with a punch to the body.
Mutch fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mutch walks into a stiff left hand from Draper. Draper lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mutch takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Draper cracks Mutch with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Mutch misses with a combination
and Draper counters with an inside leg kick. Mutch with a lazy takedown attempt and Draper counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Mutch throws a one two combo.
Mutch doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Mutch throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Draper counters with a nice body shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mutch takes a swing at Draper's ribcage but misses. Draper works over Mutch's head and body with a nice combination. Mutch tries to clinch up and Draper counters with a stiff right hand. Mutch scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Sloppy strikes from Mutch. Those never looked like landing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mutch takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Mutch closes the distance and clinches up with Draper, looking for a takedown. Mutch pushes Draper against the cage but Draper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordan Mutch. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mutch missing with a left hand there. Draper was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Draper scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Draper lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mutch is rocked! Draper connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Oh Mutch is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Draper cracks Mutch with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Mutch falls to his knees and Draper doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gideon Draper! Gideon Draper seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
