PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phil Carpio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan has chosen Freestyler as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phil Carpio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brad Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpio throws a low kick but Ryan moves out of range easily.
Ryan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A head kick misses from Carpio.
Ryan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carpio circles away quickly and effectively.
Ryan dips to his left and cracks Carpio with an uppercut!
Carpio scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Carpio tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ryan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ryan lands a leg kick that knocks Carpio off balance momentarily.
Carpio waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ryan.
Ryan looks to land a right hand but Carpio moved out of range.
Ryan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carpio.
Carpio ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ryan throws a hook to the side of Carpio's head but Carpio sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ryan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ryan tries to clinch up.
Ryan takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Ryan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Carpio.
Carpio throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A telegraphed right hand from Ryan misses the target.
Ryan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Carpio misses with a leg kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ryan lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Carpio has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Carpio and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Ryan has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Carpio.
Carpio thows a body shot but no joy.
Ryan is looking to clinch but Carpio is avoiding it.
Carpio lands a front kick.
Carpio scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carpio lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Carpio just misses with a punch to the body.
Carpio takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Carpio ducks under a wild hook from Ryan.
Carpio pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Carpio instigates a clinch.
Carpio managing to block the knees to the body from Ryan.
A short body shot lands from Ryan as the two fighters clinch.
Carpio takes an elbow to the forehead.
Ryan can't find room to land a body shot as Carpio controls the action.
Ryan tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Carpio avoids it.
Ryan is trying to drag Carpio to the mat but Carpio just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ryan stalls.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carpio is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Carpio wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ryan has him pressed against the cage.
Ryan tries a knee to the head but Carpio blocks it.
Ryan tries to throw a body punch but Carpio avoids it by throwing Ryan back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Carpio has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Carpio blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Ryan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Carpio pulls his leg out and moves away.
A head kick misses from Carpio.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carpio checks a low kick from Ryan.
Ryan is looking to clinch.
Phil Carpio is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Carpio stuffs the takedown attempt from Ryan. Ryan gets slowly back to his feet.
Phil Carpio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Ryan.
Carpio misses with a looping right.
Ryan throws out a leg kick but Carpio moves out of range and Ryan only half commits.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ryan scores a nice knee to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ryan.
Ryan misses with a knee strike.
Ryan tries to land knees in the clinch but Carpio avoids the damage to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Carpio dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Carpio throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Carpio walks into a stiff left hand from Ryan.

and Ryan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Carpio takes a swing at Ryan's ribcage but misses.
Carpio checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Carpio is looking to wear down Ryan with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Carpio throws a head kick but Ryan moves out of range.
Carpio throws a leg kick

and Ryan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Carpio wants to stand but Ryan is controlling the position.
Carpio working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ryan.

Carpio has control of Ryan's left arm, preventing Ryan from doing any damage.
Ryan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Carpio is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ryan is controlling him.
Ryan lands a couple of digs.
Carpio has momentary wrist control but Ryan slips an elbow through the middle.
Ryan tries to free his leg and advance position but Carpio is retaining full guard.
Ryan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Ryan postures up in Carpio's guard and throws a big left but Carpio blocks it.

Ryan stops Carpio from standing up.
Ryan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brad Ryan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Carpio throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ryan.
Good work by Ryan as he checks the leg kick.
Carpio throws a body punch but Ryan moves out of range.
Ryan blocks a head kick by Carpio.

Carpio looks to land a right hand but Ryan moved out of range.

Ryan looks for the body kick but Carpio saw that one coming.
Brad Ryan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Brad Ryan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Ryan pushes Carpio up against the cage in a clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Ryan.

Ryan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ryan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ryan shoots in looking for a takedown. Carpio tries to sprawl out of it but Ryan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carpio manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Carpio is looking to slow Ryan down with leg kicks.
Ryan tries to clinch up but Carpio circles away and keeps his distance.
Ryan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carpio pinned against the cage. Carpio gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ryan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Carpio.

Carpio pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ryan back to the cage. Carpio follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Ryan throws a nice outside leg kick.
Ryan looks for the body kick but Carpio saw that one coming.
A low kick from Carpio is predictable there

and Ryan counters with a single leg into guard. Carpio didn't expect that.
Ryan passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Ryan has hold of Carpio's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Carpio seems comfortable defending it but Ryan has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Carpio is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Carpio is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Ryan couldn't care less - he's delighted!
