Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ka Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Craig Mason has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ka Lima's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ka Lima!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Craig Mason!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lima thows a body shot but no joy.
Mason rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lima moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lima throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Lima waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mason.
Mason pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Lima back to the cage. Mason follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Craig Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mason dives in and scores a takedown into Lima's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Lima trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Lima is looking for a triangle here but Mason uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Lima is not content to let Mason control the position.
Mason is staying tight to Lima's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Lima gets back to half guard.
Lima is looking to control Mason's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lima avoid being mounted?

Mason stands up from half guard.
Lima misses with an attempted mid kick.

Mason closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mason happy to just control the position for now.

Mason wants to control but Lima is keeping him busy.

Mason is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lima is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mason takes a little break here. Lima wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Mason tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mason has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lima throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Lima throws a half hearted mid kick.
Ka Lima is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mason misses with a wild combination.
Mason throws a hook to the side of Lima's head but Lima sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lima throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mason connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lima momentarily.
Mason scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Mason takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mason misses with a series of wild punches.
Mason lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Lima misses with a leg kick.
Lima slips a jab and a cross from Mason.
Lima scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Lima scores with a kick to the midsection.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mason lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lima circles away quickly and effectively.
Lima lands with a kick to the temple. Mason shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Craig Mason has been cut.

A punch combination from Mason misses.
Mason is looking to clinch.
Lima throws a lazy head kick
and Mason counters with a three punch combo that has Lima backing up. Lima nods at Mason to acknowledge the strikes.
Lima keeps the fight on the outside.
Mason checks a leg kick.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lima takes a swing at Mason's ribcage but misses.
Lima explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Mason shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mason was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Lima wants to control but Mason is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Craig Mason will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Mason takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mason. Lima does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lima takes a swing at Mason's ribcage but misses.

Mason darts in and clinches Lima up against the cage.

Lima pulls Mason into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Lima is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mason stands up and waves to Lima to follow him.
Mason tries to clinch but Lima is having none of it.

Mason lands a nice shot that snaps Lima's head back.
Lima takes a swing at Mason's ribcage but misses.
Mason misses with a wild combination.
A leg kick checked by Lima.
Lima scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Lima walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Lima fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mason has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Mason throws a right and a left that Lima avoids nicely.
Lima throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mason moves in looking to clinch but Lima pushes him off.

and Mason counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mason is looking to take a break and control but Lima is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mason frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lima tries to reverse the position but Mason maintains control.
Lima is working hard here to advance position.

Mason avoids the attempt from Lima to control.
Mason wants to control but Lima has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Lima won't allow Mason to pass to mount.

Lima tries to buck Mason off but Mason is having none of it.

Mason shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lima is trying to defend but Mason finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Craig Mason has got the better of the ground game so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mason tries to stand and escape but Lima is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mason looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Mason postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lima to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lima lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lima.
Craig Mason is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice uppercut lands for Mason. That snapped Lima's head back.
Lima avoids a punch combination nicely.
Lima cracks Mason with a right hand to the side of the head.
Lima with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mason crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Lima - the referee stops the clock and Mason gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Lima. Mason manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Mason is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Lima connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Mason lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mason lands with a nice combination. Lima backs away looking to recover.
Lima is looking to land body kicks.
Lima throws a head kick that half lands.


Mason is rocked!
Look low, kick high! Lima uses the oldest trick in the book to send Mason tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Lima is absolutely delighted - when Mason wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
