Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Hummels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joshua Price! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hummels takes a body punch but keeps moving. Hummels scores with a takedown into Price's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Hummels stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Price swivels though and keeps the full guard. Price keeping moving, preventing Hummels from controlling successfully. Hummels wants to pass the guard but Price is keeping the position. Price looking for a sweep. Not yet Price, not yet. Price controls Hummels momentarily but Hummels frees himself. Hummels trying to control but Price is working from the bottom.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Hummels scores with a takedown into Price's guard. Price is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hummels is aware though and is defending well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hummels wants to control from the top but Price keeps moving. Hummels has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Price keeping full guard, as Hummels tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Price has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Hummels doesn't defend quickly enough and Price has managed to lock this one up! Can Hummels escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Price on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Joshua Price! After the fight, Joshua Price was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
