Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diogo Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Sobral!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pontes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pontes wants to pass the guard but Sobral is keeping the position.

Pontes drops back looking for a leg! Sobral is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sobral manages to kick Pontes off! Pontes jumps back into Sobral's guard.
Pontes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sobral can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pontes controls the pace.
Pontes prevents Sobral from getting back to his feet.
Pontes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sobral is keeping the position for now.
Pontes wants to control from the top but Sobral keeps moving.

Sobral can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pontes controls the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Diogo Pontes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sobral throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pontes.
Pontes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Pontes closes the distance and clinches up with Sobral, looking for a takedown. Pontes pushes Sobral against the ropes but Sobral circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Pontes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sobral tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pontes is in Sobral's guard.
Pontes trying to control the position from guard on top but Sobral is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sobral is looking to stand up but Pontes isn't so interested in that idea.
Pontes wants to pass the guard but Sobral is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pontes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pontes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Pontes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sobral is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Pontes trying to control but Sobral is working from the bottom.
Sobral really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pontes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pontes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sobral swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sobral wants to stand and escape but Pontes is having none of it.
Pontes trying to control but Sobral is working from the bottom.

Sobral tries a head kick but it misses.
Sobral thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Pontes if he has to take too many more of those.

Pontes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sobral's guard.

Pontes passes Sobral's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Pontes in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sobral tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Pontes!
