The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cox tries to clinch up.
Martinez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Cox fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Martinez lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Juan Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cox shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Martinez sprawls well. Martinez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cox gets slowly back to his feet.
Cox doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Martinez counters with a two punch combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Martinez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Cox is breathing heavily.
Martinez tries a head kick but it misses.
Martinez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cox drops his hands momentarily and Martinez needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Cox just on the top of the head. Cox drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Cox - he's done!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Juan Martinez!
Juan Martinez decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
