Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Erikson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Emelyanenko! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Emelyanenko with that takedown attempt. Emelyanenko tries for a takedown but Erikson circles away easily and Erikson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Erikson. Erikson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Erikson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Erikson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Emelyanenko's head. Erikson trying to control the position from guard on top but Emelyanenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Erikson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Erikson is in close to Emelyanenko's body, working some short punches and elbows. Emelyanenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Erikson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. This has been an exciting period of action! Erikson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Erikson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Erikson with a nice head shot there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelyanenko keeping moving, preventing Erikson from controlling successfully. Erikson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Erikson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Erikson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Erikson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Erikson throwing strikes but missing. Erikson wants to control from the top but Emelyanenko keeps moving. Erikson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emelyanenko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Erikson. Erikson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Emelyanenko trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Erikson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
It looks like Aleksander Emelyanenko has been cut. Erikson postures up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Erikson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Erikson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Emelyanenko keeping moving, preventing Erikson from controlling successfully. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Erikson scoring with some ground and pound. Emelyanenko keeping moving, preventing Erikson from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Erikson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We're going to have a standup here because Jay Erikson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Erikson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Emelyanenko. Jay Erikson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksander Emelyanenko.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Erikson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Erikson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Erikson working Emelyanenko over with strikes. Erikson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Emelyanenko to get to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Erikson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Erikson landing knees to the body.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Emelyanenko goes for a takedown in the clinch but Erikson prevents it.

Emelyanenko is looking to take this one to the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jay Erikson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Aleksander Emelyanenko's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Emelyanenko gets tackled into the cage by Erikson. Erikson maintains the clinch. Emelyanenko should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Erikson tries to work over Emelyanenko's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Emelyanenko wants to take the fight to the mat but Erikson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Emelyanenko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Erikson pulls him back up using the underhooks. Erikson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jay Erikson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Oooooh!!! Emelyanenko has knocked Erikson down with a huge combo! Emelyanenko steps away and waves a wobbly Erikson back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
It looks like Jay Erikson has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Excellent takedown into side control there by Erikson. Jay Erikson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Emelyanenko dodges the ground and pound from Erikson. Emelyanenko tries to buck Erikson off but Erikson is having none of it. Erikson scoring with punches from side control. Erikson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Emelyanenko keeps working. Emelyanenko is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Erikson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Erikson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Erikson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Emelyanenko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Erikson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Emelyanenko keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Erikson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Erikson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Erikson has hold of Emelyanenko's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Emelyanenko tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Erikson cranks the arm and Emelyanenko screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Emelyanenko, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jay Erikson! Jay Erikson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
