PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Angel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dee Nutz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Angel comes to the cage accompanied by Zica Vai Lá-Emicida. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dee Nutz!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nutz scores with a takedown into Angel's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Nutz's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Nutz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Nutz showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dee Nutz was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nutz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Angel buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Angel looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Angel lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Angel.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nutz.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Angel tries to escape but Nutz is in control.
Nutz controls the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dee Nutz.

Nutz feints and as Angel raises his hands in defense, Nutz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Angel is breathing heavily.
Nutz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nutz slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nutz stalling.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dee Nutz was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Angel scores with a three punch combo!

Nutz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nutz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dee Nutz wasn't active enough on the ground.
Horrible takedown by Nutz or perhaps it was just good defense by Angel which made him look bad.
Angel throws a right and a left that both miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fight stays on the outside here - Angel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Angel moves in looking to clinch but Nutz pushes him off.

Angel tries to clinch but Nutz is having none of it.
Nutz throws a right hand that Angel ducks under and follows up with a left that Angel also avoids with ease.

Jake Angel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Angel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nutz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nutz avoids a punch combination nicely.

Nutz passes to side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nutz decides to stand back up.

Nice sprawl there from Angel as Nutz shoots in.
Angel tries to clinch there but Nutz circles away.

Jake Angel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nutz looks to throw a body kick
and Angel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nutz scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Angel tries to clinch up but Nutz circles away and keeps his distance.
Nutz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Angel sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jake Angel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dee Nutz.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nutz is trying to control. Angel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Angel is trying to stand up here but Nutz is controlling him well.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dee Nutz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Angel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nutz.
Nutz ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Jake Angel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nutz feints and as Angel raises his hands in defense, Nutz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nutz stands and steps away. Angel gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nutz throws a head kick that misses.
Angel fails in his attempt to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dee Nutz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Angel tries to clinch there but Nutz circles away.
Nutz throws a right and a left that both miss.

Angel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Nutz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Nutz gets to his feet. Angel looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Angel throws a nice looking combination but Nutz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Angel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nutz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Nutz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Angel is looking to get back to is feet but Nutz passes into side control.
Nutz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Nutz tries for a kimura but Angel is defending well.

Nutz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nutz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nutz creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Angel bucks up and tries to throw Nutz off but instead Nutz has got his back!
What can Angel do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Angel is trying to remain composed but Nutz is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Angel has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nutz lands punches and elbows.

Jake Angel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

I've got Nutz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
