Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rafal Piotrowski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Vega! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Piotrowski tries a head kick but it misses.
Piotrowski looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Vega is looking to slow Piotrowski down with leg kicks. Piotrowski drives through with a takedown into guard. Piotrowski wants to pass the guard but Vega is keeping the position. Piotrowski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Piotrowski trying to control the position from guard on top but Vega is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vega looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vega trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vega wants to get back to his feet but Piotrowski is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Piotrowski is looking to stand up but Vega won't let him. Vega seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Vega with a poor takedown and Piotrowski counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Vega actively working from the bottom here. Vega looks gassed! Piotrowski keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vega is looking to control Piotrowski's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vega avoid being mounted? Still in half guard, Piotrowski seems content to control. Piotrowski seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Vega tries to get to full guard but Piotrowski has control of the leg. Piotrowski tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Vega. Piotrowski controlling the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vega is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Vega tries to roll over but Piotrowski keeps him under control. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Vega trying to control here.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Piotrowski passes to full mount! Piotrowski unloading with bombs! Piotrowski looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Piotrowski controlling the position easily from mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rafal Piotrowski dominated that round. That's time! Piotrowski's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Vega bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Piotrowski regains half guard. Piotrowski is looking to improve his position.
Piotrowski holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Piotrowski is pressing down on Vega's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Piotrowski is pulling down on Vega's head. It's preventing any offense from Vega, at least for the moment. Piotrowski keeping moving, preventing Vega from controlling successfully. Vega is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Piotrowski pulls Vega in close to his closed guard and prevents Vega from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Vega throws a strike but Piotrowski rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Piotrowski connects with a couple of short punches. Piotrowski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Piotrowski decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vega, up you get! Piotrowski is looking to clinch but Vega is avoiding it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Piotrowski lands a head kick. Vega smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Vega circles away from the clinch attempt.
Vega has his takedown stuffed and Piotrowski counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Vega is lucky that one didn't land flush. Rafal Piotrowski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Piotrowski throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Piotrowski throws a head kick but Vega moves out of range.
Vega closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Vega decides to take the fight back to the feet. Vega instigates a clinch. Vega ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Vega no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Vega looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Vega controls Piotrowski momentarily but Piotrowski frees himself. Vega is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Piotrowski prevents Vega from getting back to his feet. Piotrowski trying to control but Vega is working from the bottom. Piotrowski stands up from guard. Let's bang! Piotrowski misses with a takedown attempt and Vega counters with a big head kick but Piotrowski shrugs it off. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Vega shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Piotrowski as he avoids it easily. Vega dodges the punch combination from Piotrowski.
Piotrowski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vega looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Rafal Piotrowski will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Vega fails with the takedown and Piotrowski holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Piotrowski scores with a shoulder strike. Vega fails to pull guard.
Piotrowski tries to land knees in the clinch but Vega avoids the damage to the body. Vega can't break the clinch.

Rafal Piotrowski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Vega. Piotrowski is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Vega is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Piotrowski lands an uppercut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Piotrowski with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Piotrowski has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vega is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Vega cracks Piotrowski with a nice body shot. Vega takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Piotrowski lands a nice knee to the body. Vega tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Piotrowski just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vega breaks from the clinch.

Piotrowski has a takedown stuffed. Piotrowski throws a series of punches but Vega moves out of range. Vega rushes Piotrowski and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Piotrowski lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Vega. Vega breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Vega has his takedown stuffed and Piotrowski counters with a head kick. Vega has a takedown stuffed. Piotrowski gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Vega controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vega is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Piotrowski is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Piotrowski has escaped and now he's on top! Vega is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Vega is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Piotrowski gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vega pulls guard successfully.
Piotrowski stops Vega from standing up. Piotrowski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vega swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vega has control of Piotrowski's left arm, preventing Piotrowski from doing any damage. Piotrowski trying to control but Vega is working from the bottom. Rafal Piotrowski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Vega is trying to control the position but Piotrowski postures up. Piotrowski trying to control but Vega is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Piotrowski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Piotrowski advances position into side control! You can see the frustration on Vega's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Vega is not content to let Piotrowski control the position. James Vega has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Piotrowski avoids the strikes from the bottom by Vega.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rafal Piotrowski. Well Piotrowski has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
