Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Popov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richter Alastrasz! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Eddie Farnsworth and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Popov rushes Alastrasz and presses him up against the cage. Popov lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
It looks like Richter Alastrasz has been cut. Alastrasz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Alastrasz is trying to stall.
Alastrasz has picked Popov up - he's going for a ride! Alastrasz dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Alastrasz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Popov wants to get back to his feet.
Popov is refusing to be controlled, as Alastrasz sits in half guard. Alastrasz wants to pass to mount but Popov is defending the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alastrasz trying to control from half guard but Popov is working away. Alastrasz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Alastrasz is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Alastrasz trying to control but Popov is working from the bottom. Popov wants to get back to his feet but Alastrasz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz wants to control from the top but Popov keeps moving. Alastrasz looking to sit in guard and control but Popov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Popov connects with a couple of short punches. Popov postures up.
Alastrasz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Popov manages to get himself to full guard.
Alastrasz trying to control but Popov is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Popov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Popov is looking to stand up but Alastrasz isn't so interested in that idea. Alastrasz controls from within his opponent's guard. Alastrasz won't allow Popov to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz looking to pass the guard. Alastrasz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Alastrasz throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Popov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Alastrasz gets full guard. Popov postures up.
Popov throws a big elbow that misses. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Popov is stalling in the full guard. Popov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Richter Alastrasz will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Richter Alastrasz's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Alastrasz looks to land a left hand but Popov moved out of range nicely. Alexander Popov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Alastrasz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alastrasz wants to pass to mount but Popov is defending the position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Richter Alastrasz has got the better of the ground game so far. Popov is not content to let Alastrasz control the position.

Alastrasz lands with a punch from half guard. Alastrasz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Popov keeps working. Popov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Alastrasz is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alastrasz slips a nice elbow through Popov's hands, connecting with Popov's forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Popov's head. Alastrasz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Popov keeps working. Alastrasz is working for a submission of some sort.
Alastrasz trying to control the pace. Alastrasz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz is controlling the pace.
Alastrasz is looking to take a break and control but Popov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alastrasz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alastrasz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Popov defends it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz trying to control from Popov's half guard. Popov has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Alastrasz throwing strikes from guard but Popov blocks nicely. Alastrasz passes easily into side control. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Richter Alastrasz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Richter Alastrasz's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Popov plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Alastrasz missing with a left hand there. Popov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Popov scores a takedown into full mount! Alastrasz can't escape the position.
Alastrasz tries to hold on but Popov pushes him away. Alastrasz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Popov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Popov throwing strikes here but Alastrasz is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Popov scoring with strikes but Alastrasz is staying in there. Popov breaks from Alastrasz's wrist control and lands an elbow. Alastrasz really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alastrasz blocking the ground and pound. Alastrasz working to try and regain half guard.
Popov avoids the attempt from Alastrasz to control. Popov lands a big shot there that rocks Alastrasz but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Popov looking to finish Alastrasz with some ground and pound. This is bad for Alastrasz! Popov in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Alastrasz is desperately trying to improve his position but Popov has a good base and remains in mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Popov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alastrasz is looking to escape. Popov lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Alastrasz really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Alastrasz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Alastrasz is refusing to be controlled, as Popov sits in half guard. Popov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like Popov is going to stand back up.
Alastrasz manages to get to full guard.
Popov trying to control but Alastrasz is working from the bottom. Alastrasz looking to control.
Alastrasz has his hands on Popov's head, controlling the position. Popov postures up in Alastrasz's guard and throws a big left but Alastrasz blocks it. Richter Alastrasz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alastrasz looking to control.
Popov stands up from Alastrasz's guard - Popov perhaps looking for a knockout. Alastrasz keeps the fight on the outside. Popov tries to clinch up. Popov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Alastrasz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Popov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Popov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Popov showed some decent athleticism there. Alastrasz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Alexander Popov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Popov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
