PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rage Kootz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dylan Mcgrath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rage Kootz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dylan Mcgrath!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcgrath thows a body kick. Kootz tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Mcgrath tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kootz is able to avoid easily.
Kootz throws a low kick but it's checked well by Mcgrath.
Kootz on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Mcgrath throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Mcgrath lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Rage Kootz has been cut.
Kootz goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kootz misses with a few strikes there.
Kootz misses the jab.
Nice shot lands for Mcgrath.
Mcgrath throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Kootz counters with a low kick, right behind Mcgrath 's knee.
Mcgrath closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kootz circles away.
Mcgrath throws a low kick, looking for Kootz's leg but Kootz calmly moves out of range.
Mcgrath shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kootz as he avoids it easily.
Kootz connects with a solid leg kick.
Kootz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mcgrath.

Kootz throws a leg kick but Mcgrath sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Mcgrath shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kootz defends it nicely.
Rage Kootz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dylan Mcgrath.
Kootz ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mcgrath fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kootz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mcgrath moves in looking to clinch but Kootz pushes him off.
Kootz showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mcgrath.
Kootz shoots for a double leg takedown but Mcgrath sprawls well. He's pushed Kootz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kootz throws a low kick but Mcgrath moves out of range easily.
Mcgrath thuds his right hand into Kootz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Kootz misses with a leg kick
and Mcgrath counters with a nice uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mcgrath throws a hook but Kootz avoids it easily.
Mcgrath on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kootz. Kootz obviously looking to wear him down.
Kootz has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mcgrath.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mcgrath closes the distance and clinches up with Kootz, looking for a takedown. Mcgrath pushes Kootz against the cage but Kootz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Kootz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mcgrath!
Mcgrath is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Kootz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mcgrath can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcgrath really wants to buck Kootz off and get back to his feet.

Kootz seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Mcgrath is holding on tight.
Mcgrath has given up his back.
Kootz slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Kootz misses with an elbow to the head.
Mcgrath breaks Kootz's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Kootz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mcgrath defends it easily.
Kootz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kootz wants to sweep here but Mcgrath controlling him for the moment.
Kootz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mcgrath slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dylan Mcgrath will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mcgrath tries to clinch but Kootz moves away

and Kootz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mcgrath won't be happy with that.
Kootz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcgrath keeps working.
Mcgrath dodges the ground and pound from Kootz.
Kootz controls the position.
Mcgrath struggling a bit here.

Kootz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mcgrath is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kootz is chipping away with strikes.

Kootz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mcgrath rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kootz's guard! Nice work there by Mcgrath!
Mcgrath wants to stand and escape but instead Kootz has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mcgrath is looking to stand up but Kootz isn't so interested in that idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mcgrath manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Mcgrath will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mcgrath scores with a hook to the body. Kootz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Dylan Mcgrath seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mcgrath uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kootz.
Kootz checks a leg kick.
Mcgrath tries to land a leg kick but Kootz saw it coming and moves away.
Kootz closes the distance and clinches up with Mcgrath, looking for a takedown. Kootz pushes Mcgrath against the cage but Mcgrath circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No joy there for Mcgrath, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mcgrath takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kootz swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kootz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A left and a right from Mcgrath both land. Nice combination.
Mcgrath changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kootz tries to avoid it but Mcgrath manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kootz to the ground. Kootz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mcgrath slips a straight right by Kootz.
Mcgrath throws a hook to the side of Kootz's head but Kootz sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Kootz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kootz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mcgrath is trying to stand.
Mcgrath is breathing heavily.

Kootz seems to be working for a kimura but Mcgrath defends the submission attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kootz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Mcgrath walks into a left hand.
Mcgrath tries for a takedown but Kootz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mcgrath throws a leg kick but Kootz moved away.
Dylan Mcgrath is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kootz keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Kootz slips a jab from Mcgrath.
Mcgrath throws a lazy head kick

and Kootz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kootz postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kootz stands and throws Mcgrath's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kootz has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Mcgrath is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Kootz yanks on the arm and Mcgrath is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Kootz.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rage Kootz!
Rage Kootz seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
