Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Rider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Steele has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Rider!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Steele!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Steele.

Rider gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steele manages to get back to half guard.
Rider is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Steele tries to get to full guard but Rider has control of the leg.

Rider is nestled in close to Steele, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rider accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Steele darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Steele is looking to advance position but Rider won't allow it.
Steele uses his free foot to push down on Rider's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rider.
Rider keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Steele has control of Rider's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rider regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Steele is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rider doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Steele.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rider lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Steele!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Rider feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Steele is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rider is just riding it out for now. Steele eventually gives up the hold.

Steele has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rider can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Steele is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Steele has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Rider has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Steele is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rider defends it well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Steele connects with a nice short shot to Rider's temple.

Steele has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rider is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Steele.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ryan Rider will probably get the nod.
