Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shaun Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Miller! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller misses with a combination
letting Johnson counter with a right hand. Miller looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Johnson tries for a takedown but Miller sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Miller throws a combination that misses and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut. Johnson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Miller looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Shaun Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Decent striking displayed by Johnson there. Miller has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Johnson finds it's way round the side to connect with Miller's head. A nice inside leg kick there by Johnson. That's going to slow Miller down. Miller takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Johnson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. A decent looking cross lands there for Johnson. Johnson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Johnson scores with a jab to the head.

Johnson lands a nice looking body kick. Miller is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Johnson. Johnson is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Johnson scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Miller's waist but Miller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side. Johnson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Miller is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Johnson lands with a straight right. Miller didn't see that one coming. Miller is still on wobbly legs! Can Johnson finish him? Nice combo by Johnson! Oh, that's hurt him - Miller falls to the canvas and Johnson follows him into side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miller can do anything to dispel that myth. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Miller is not content to let Johnson control the position.

Johnson working the ground and pound but Miller is defending the strikes. Miller dodges the ground and pound from Johnson. Johnson staying calm. Johnson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Johnson tries to score with some ground and pound. Miller controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Johnson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Miller sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Miller seems to have recovered his senses. Johnson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miller keeps working. Johnson misses with the ground and pound. Johnson trying to control the action but Miller is working from the bottom. Miller parries the strikes from Johnson easily there. Johnson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Miller to escape.

Johnson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Miller will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Johnson lets go of the hold and Miller can pop his arm back in it's socket.
