Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Cam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alessio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Cam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alessio Rua!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cam tries to clinch but Rua is having none of it.
Cam wants to clinch but Rua slips to the side

and Rua counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rua wants to control but Cam is keeping him busy.
Nice strikes from Rua there.
Rua slips a nice elbow through Cam's hands, connecting with Cam's forehead.
Rua has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cam on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rua looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Rua thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Rua decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Cam tries to clinch up

and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cam's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rua working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Rua decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cam darts in trying to clinch

and Rua counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rua.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cam keeping moving, preventing Rua from controlling successfully.
Rua throws a strike but Cam rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua lands a decent shot there.
Cam being controlled here momentarily.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alessio Rua.
Rua shoots in for a takedown but Cam shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cam tries to clinch there but Rua circles away.

and Rua decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cam's guard.
Rua passes Cam's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rua stands up out of the half guard.
Rua keeps the fight on the outside.
Cam moves to clinch but Rua breaks away

and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cam's guard now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Cam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rua missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cam preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Rua gets to his feet - Cam follows without any prompting.

Rua fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cam to the ground. Rua is now in Cam's guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rua controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alessio Rua dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rua circles away from the clinch attempt.

Rua rushes Cam and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Cam comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Cam crunches a lovely knee into Rua's ribcage.

Cam lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Rua takes an elbow to the temple.

Rua is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cam is defending well.
Rua is looking to take this one to the mat.
James Cam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alessio Rua.

Rua fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Knees in the clinch landing for Cam.
Cam misses with a knee to the head.
Cam lands a knee to the head.
Rua drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cam lands a nice elbow.

Cam lands an elbow inside that Rua shrugs off.
Cam misses with a knee to the head.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Cam just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rua's brow.
Rua on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Rua has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Cam after a bit of a struggle.
Cam putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Rua in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Cam lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Rua blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Cam tries to land knees in the clinch but Rua avoids the damage to the body.

It looks like Alessio Rua has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rua takes an elbow to the forehead.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Cam lands a good knee to the midsection. Rua won't want to take too many of those.

Cam tries a knee to the head but Rua blocks it.
Cam throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Cam lands a nice elbow.
Rua blocks the elbow strike.
Cam with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Cam lands an elbow inside that Rua shrugs off.

Rua gets control of Cam's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rua will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Rua has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Cam off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Rua throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cam was covering up waiting for the punch and Rua finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rua advances position into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rua wants to control but Cam is keeping him busy.
Cam wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rua decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cam to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Cam dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Alessio Rua's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Rua swats away the attempt to clinch by Cam.
No joy there for Rua, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rua fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cam moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
Rua circles away from the clinch attempt

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Rua stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Rua tries for a takedown but Cam sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rua.
Rua looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cam is fending him off so far but Rua persists. Nope, Cam circles away and we're back to standing.

and Rua counters with a single leg into guard. Cam didn't expect that.
Rua takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rua wants to control from the top but Cam keeps moving.

Rua stands up from Cam's guard - Rua perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rua circles away from the clinch attempt.

Rua shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cam defends it nicely.
Cam tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rua swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cam fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Rua counters with a three punch combo that has Cam backing up. Cam nods at Rua to acknowledge the strikes.
Rua looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cam is fending him off so far but Rua persists. Nope, Cam circles away and we're back to standing.
James Cam is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rua shoots in but no luck this time.
Cam tries to clinch up

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cam won't be happy with that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cam parries the strikes from Rua easily there. Rua is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cam to escape.
Sloppy strikes there by Rua.
Rua tries to advance position but instead Cam slips a leg back in to half guard.
Well, if Rua is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Rua is working for a submission of some sort.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rua is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cam defends it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alessio Rua comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rua has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
