Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Oath! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave Suraski! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Suraski looks to score with a jab to the body but Oath is just out of range. Dave Suraski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oath thuds a left hand into Suraski's body. A nice inside leg kick there by Oath. That's going to slow Suraski down. Suraski shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Oath sprawls well. Oath wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Suraski gets slowly back to his feet. Oath gets caught napping as Suraski dives in and scores a takedown. Oath manages to retain guard. Oath keeping moving, preventing Suraski from controlling successfully. Suraski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Suraski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suraski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Suraski won't allow Oath to sweep him here. Suraski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oath swivels though and keeps the full guard. Oath knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Suraski on the ground. Oath looking to hit a scissor sweep but Suraski is one step ahead there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Suraski looking to pass the guard. Oath is pulling down on Suraski's head to control his posture. Suraski has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suraski wants to pass the guard but Oath is keeping the position. Suraski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Oath avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Oath is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Suraski stopping the sweep attempt from Oath.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Ken Oath just wasn't active enough. Oath doesn't manage to clinch there - Suraski circles away.
No luck for Suraski with that takedown attempt. Oath lands a right hook to the body.
Good leg kick by Oath there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Suraski has a takedown stuffed. Ken Oath has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Suraski. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Oath.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oath cracks a nice hook into Suraski's ribs. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A slow jab from Suraski misses its intended target. Oath catches Suraski with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Oath chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Oath goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Oath scores with a jab to the body. Suraski looks gassed! Oath with a body punch. A glancing blow. Oath forces Suraski back against the cage and clinches. Oath makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. A short uppercut from Oath. Oath has Suraski pushed against the cage. A right hook to the body lands for Oath.
A short right from Oath on the inside. Oath lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Oath is working Suraski over against the cage. Suraski taking a breather. Oath taking a breather. Oath throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A short right from Oath. Suraski is trying to force a seperation but Oath has the dominant position. Oath has Suraski pressed against the cage, preventing Suraski from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Oath lands a knee to the head.
It looks like Dave Suraski has been cut. Oath landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Oath working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Oath lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Oath lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Suraski backwards. Oath lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Suraski tries to score a body lock takedown but Oath shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Oath avoiding damage.
This has been an exciting period of action! Oath softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Oath is stalling here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Suraski wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Oath is pressed up against the cage. Suraski has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Oath down to the mat. Oath avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Oath is looking to wear down Suraski with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Suraski misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Oath lands a slapping body shot.
Oath slips a straight right by Suraski. Nice body punch from Oath. Suraski takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Oath jabs Suraski to the body, keeping him at a distance. Oath connects with a nice looking jab.
Oath catches Suraski with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Suraski is rocked! Oath pushes Suraski up against the cage in a clinch. Oath lands a big knee to the head and Suraski goes down! Oath pounces and finishes the fight with strikes! He jumps to his feet and celebrates with the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ken Oath! During a confident post fight interview, Ken Oath thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
