PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cloud Strife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orlando Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Styles has chosen Enter Sandman by Metallica as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cloud Strife!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Orlando Styles!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Styles tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Strife leaves Styles with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Styles keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Strife.
Styles shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Strife pinned against the cage. Strife gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Strife. Styles does a little dance to reset his feet.
Styles fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cloud Strife has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Orlando Styles.

Styles tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strife swivels and escapes.
Styles lands with a good body shot.
The crowd cheers as Styles lands an impressive looking overhand right. Strife doesn't seem phased though.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Styles is defended easily by Strife.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

and Styles counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Styles shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Strife pinned against the cage. Strife gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Styles throws a hook but Strife blocks it.
Styles shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Strife napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Styles tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Styles has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Styles tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Styles is looking to take a break and control but Strife is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Styles wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Strife, who protects the arm well.
Styles is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Strife is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Styles thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Styles looks for a takedown but Strife sprawls well.
Styles shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Strife defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Styles connects with a body shot that sends Strife's belly button to the back.

Styles misses with a takedown attempt - Strife sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Strife looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Styles fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Strife rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Styles moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Orlando Styles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Strife's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Styles has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Styles is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Strife wants to improve his position but Styles is controlling well.
Strife tries to kick Styles off but Styles keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Styles trying to control from half guard but Strife is working away.
Strife might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Styles wants to work for an arm triangle but Strife is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Styles slows the pace down in half guard.

Styles works his foot free and advances to mount.
Styles throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Styles is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Strife is surviving well by controlling Styles's body position as best he can.
Styles is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Strife is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Strife flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Styles anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Strife and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Styles slips an arm under Strife chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Styles has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Styles is squeezing on Strife like an anaconda would it's prey. Strife fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Orlando Styles!
