PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Garett Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potter comes to the cage accompanied by Ju Jitsu. The key to victory for Garett Potter has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Garett Potter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Potter.

Jacobs shoots in and gets a takedown into Potter's guard.
Jacobs looking to pass the guard.
Potter is looking to stand up but Jacobs isn't so interested in that idea.
Jacobs's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tim Jacobs was stalling too much, according to the referee.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jacobs.
Potter leaves Jacobs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Potter feints and as Jacobs raises his hands in defense, Potter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Potter wanted to stand there but Jacobs had control of the position.

Potter has gone for a leg lock! Jacobs slips out almost immediately though and dives into Potter's guard.
Jacobs is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jacobs is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jacobs trying to control the position from guard on top but Potter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jacobs is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tim Jacobs hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Jacobs looks for a takedown but Potter sprawls well.
Garett Potter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Jacobs.

Potter rushes Jacobs and presses him up against the cage.
Jacobs tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Potter just stands there and leans against the cage.

Potter manages to break the clinch.

Potter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jacobs is trying to control Potter's posture but Potter avoids it.

Jacobs is trying to get back to half guard.
Jacobs parries the strikes from Potter easily there. Potter is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jacobs to escape.

Potter has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Jacobs shoots in for a double leg but Potter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Potter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jacobs was covering up waiting for the punch and Potter finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Potter trying to control but Jacobs is working from the bottom.
Jacobs not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jacobs holds on and takes a little breather.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Garett Potter just wasn't active enough.

Jacobs gets caught napping as Potter dives in and scores a takedown. Jacobs manages to retain guard.

Jacobs fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Potter sprawls well initially but Jacobs persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jacobs is keen to just control but Potter is a slippery customer.
Potter is looking for a sweep. Jacobs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jacobs looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jacobs is looking to take a break and control but Potter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Garett Potter will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Potter tries for a takedown but Jacobs sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Potter is looking to improve his position but Jacobs isn't that keen on the idea.
Potter tries to hold on but Jacobs postures up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tim Jacobs hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Potter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Jacobs shoots in looking for a takedown but Potter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jacobs's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Potter looks to land a combination but Jacobs avoids it well.

and Potter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Potter pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Garett Potter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Jacobs.
Jacobs shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Potter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Potter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jacobs but Jacobs pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fight stays on the outside here - Potter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Potter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Jacobs shoots in and bounces Potter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Jacobs pushes down on Potter's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jacobs looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jacobs seems to be looking for submissions.
Jacobs prevents Potter from improving his position.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Jacobs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Potter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Jacobs shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jacobs showed some decent athleticism there.
Potter is trying to stand back up but Jacobs is controlling him

Jacobs is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jacobs is taking a breather. Potter says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Potter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Potter.
Jacobs takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Potter looking to control.
Jacobs is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Jacobs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tim Jacobs.

Potter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jacobs is looking for a sweep. Potter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jacobs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Potter is working away from the top position though.

Jacobs is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Potter is staying active.
Potter is trying to control. Jacobs wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Jacobs is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Potter pulls his head out easily.
Jacobs trying to get back to full guard but Potter takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Potter looking to control but Jacobs is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Jacobs tries to hold on but Potter pushes him away.
Potter misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Potter is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Jacobs feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jacobs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Potter kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Tim Jacobs has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Potter moves into range and clinches up with Jacobs.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Potter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jacobs but Jacobs pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Potter shoots in for a takedown but Jacobs shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Tim Jacobs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jacobs has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
