Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fidel Gaspar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Alvarez looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fidel Gaspar!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez stuffs the takedown attempt from Gaspar. Gaspar gets slowly back to his feet.
Alvarez looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Gaspar has closed the distance and engaged Alvarez in a clinch.

Gaspar turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Gaspar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alvarez has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gaspar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gaspar is looking to take a break and control but Alvarez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gaspar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gaspar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gaspar moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Alvarez has worked his arm free - good work by Alvarez!

Gaspar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Gaspar goes for an armbar but Alvarez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Alvarez.

Alvarez is taking a breather. Gaspar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Gaspar is looking to improve his position.

Gaspar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gaspar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gaspar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alvarez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gaspar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alvarez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gaspar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Alvarez just stands there and leans against the cage.

and Alvarez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alvarez.

Gaspar decides to pull guard.

Gaspar throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alvarez escapes and throws Gaspar's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Alvarez stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Gaspar wants to clinch.
Gaspar wants to clinch up but Alvarez keeps it at a distance.

Gaspar swats away the attempt to clinch by Alvarez.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alvarez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Gaspar counters with a head kick. That will keep Alvarez thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Alvarez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gaspar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Gaspar has his foot on Alvarez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alvarez works his way back into a safe position though.

Gaspar had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Alvarez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gaspar Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Alvarez's back instead.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Alvarez shoots in and drives through. Gaspar sprawls well.

Gaspar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alvarez regains half guard there - taking advantage of Gaspar's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Fidel Gaspar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Alvarez wants to control but Gaspar is keeping busy.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thiago Alvarez.
Well Gaspar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
