PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luis Chalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dylan Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luis Chalas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dylan Cox!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chalas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cox sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chalas somewhat.
Cox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chalas tries to avoid it but Cox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chalas to the ground. Chalas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Cox gets tackled into the cage by Chalas. Chalas maintains the clinch.
Chalas is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Chalas breaks from the clinch.
Chalas tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Cox counters with a three punch combo that has Chalas backing up. Chalas nods at Cox to acknowledge the strikes.

Chalas instigates a clinch.

Chalas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Luis Chalas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cox jumps guard but Chalas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Cox has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chalas uses from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chalas gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Chalas lands with a hook. Cox tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cox doesn't manage to clinch there - Chalas circles away.
Cox tries for a takedown but Chalas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Luis Chalas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dylan Cox.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cox stops Chalas from standing up.
Cox is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chalas keeping full guard, as Cox tries to pass.

Chalas trying to keep a closed guard but Cox is proving a slippery customer.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cox lands a high kick!

Chalas clinches up with Cox and pushes him back against the cage.
Chalas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cox.

Cox is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Chalas to keep the fight standing.

Chalas landing knees to the head.

Chalas tries to pull guard but Cox holds him up against the cage and eventually Chalas drops back down to his feet.

Chalas gets control of Cox's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chalas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Chalas lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cox!

Cox is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chalas has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Chalas trying to control but Cox is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chalas lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chalas lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Chalas has Cox up against the cage in a clinch.
Cox fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Chalas gets underhooks to prevent Cox's takedown attempt.
Cox jumps guard but Chalas stands there with Cox around his waist. Cox gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Luis Chalas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dylan Cox.
Cox tries to score a body lock takedown but Chalas shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cox pulls guard effortlessly.

Cox is looking for a triangle but Chalas pushes his legs off easily.
Chalas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Chalas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cox is breathing heavily.

Chalas seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cox for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Luis Chalas.

Chalas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Chalas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Cox will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Check out the look on Chalas's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Chalas takes a swing at Cox's ribcage but misses.
Cox moves out of range of the body kick.
Cox doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Chalas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Luis Chalas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cox tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chalas lands a couple of elbows.
Chalas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chalas pushes down on Cox's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Chalas moves into full mount! Cox won't be happy about that!

Chalas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cox tries to lock up and control but Chalas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Chalas shoots in and bounces Cox off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cox is trying to control the position but Chalas postures up.
Chalas won't allow Cox to sweep him here.
Cox wants to stand up but Chalas is controlling him.
Chalas pushing down on Cox's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Cox wants to control but Chalas is keeping busy.

Chalas escapes and gets back to his feet.
Cox tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chalas swivels and escapes.
Cox takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Chalas rushes Cox and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Chalas wants a takedown.
Knees in the clinch landing for Cox.
Chalas lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cox backwards.
Chalas tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cox stalling in the clinch but Chalas improves position.

Chalas gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cox regains guard.

Chalas gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Cox takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Chalas checks a leg kick nicely.
Chalas is looking to clinch but Cox is avoiding it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chalas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cox content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Cox goes for a takedown in the clinch but Chalas prevents it.

Chalas pulls Cox into guard.
Cox wants to stand but Chalas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Chalas is pulling down on Cox's head. It's preventing any offense from Cox, at least for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Chalas has his feet on Cox's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Cox gets caught flat footed, as Chalas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dylan Cox has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chalas advances to half guard.

Chalas decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Chalas closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cox did well to prevent Chalas getting side control.
Cox really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chalas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Chalas is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cox!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chalas is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Chalas!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Luis Chalas!
Luis Chalas tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
