Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mickey ONeil! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Shields! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! ONeil pulls out of a head kick attempt.
ONeil shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. A jab from ONeil misses. ONeil tries a head kick but it misses.
Shields needs to keep his hands up - ONeil had a free shot at his head there.
It looks like David Shields has been cut. ONeil throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Shields. Shields tries to move into range but ONeil moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Shields misses with an uppercut. ONeil tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A big left from Shields misses. Shields uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by ONeil.
ONeil throws a wild combination but nothing lands. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shields misses the shot to the body. Shields throws a body punch but ONeil moves out of range. ONeil misses with a hook. ONeil wants to land a leg kick but Shields is out of range. Shields misses with a body shot.
ONeil cracks Shields with a good jab. ONeil misses with a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jab, jab by ONeil - just one landing. ONeil misses with an uppercut
and Shields counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Shields stuns ONeil with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. ONeil throws a lazy right hand but Shields sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Shields missing with a left hand there. ONeil was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. ONeil lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Shields throws a big shot that misses. Shields ducks down and throws a hook to the body but ONeil moves away. ONeil is looking to slow Shields down with leg kicks. Shields fakes high and swings low for a body shot but ONeil manages to avoid it. Mickey ONeil is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. ONeil throws a sloppy head kick and Shields moves out of range easily. ONeil throws a right and a left that Shields avoids nicely. ONeil closes the distance and clinches. This has been an exciting period of action! ONeil trying to land knees to the body.
Shields blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. A shot in the inside from Shields. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Shields.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shields takes a shot to the head. Shields gets through ONeil's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. ONeil throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Shields blocks it with crossed arms. Still in the clinch, ONeil scores with a nice short uppercut. Shields tried to land a shot to the body but connects with ONeil's elbow. ONeil is struggling to control the position. Shields tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. ONeil smiles and moves away.
Shields misses with a hook. ONeil ducked under it nicely. ONeil takes a swing at Shields's ribcage but misses. Shields uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from ONeil. Shields closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming ONeil to the mat! ONeil manages to get full guard. Shields throws an elbow that misses. ONeil uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shields's guard. Nice move by ONeil! Shields had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. ONeil defends it easily. ONeil has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. ONeil is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Shields throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
ONeil trying to stand up but can't free himself from Shields's guard. ONeil wants to pass the guard but Shields is keeping the position. Shields had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. ONeil defends it easily. ONeil looking to pass the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. ONeil is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Shields is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shields trying to control from ONeil's half guard. ONeil has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Shields is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! ONeil is trying to control the position but Shields postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mickey ONeil dominated that round. The cut man is working on David Shields's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Shields tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but ONeil was well out of range. Poor timing from Shields. Shields connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed ONeil momentarily.
Shields throws a leg kick but ONeil moved away. An inside leg kick lands from ONeil. ONeil lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. ONeil throws a half hearted mid kick. Shields ducks under a wild hook from ONeil. ONeil displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shields. ONeil takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
ONeil fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Shields is out of range. Shields drives through with a takedown into guard. ONeil looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Shields throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shields content to stall in guard here. ONeil preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Shields trying to control but ONeil is working from the bottom.
OK we're going to have a standup here. David Shields hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. ONeil throws a body kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shields misses the shot to the body. ONeil dodges the punch combination from Shields.
Shields lands a lovely overhand right. ONeil connects with a crisp jab. ONeil throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

so Shields counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. ONeil tries to land a sweep but no joy. Shields in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. ONeil lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shields! Shields is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shields tries to lock up and control but ONeil gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. ONeil can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shields is looking to escape. ONeil wants to take Shields's back but he can't do it this time. Shields tries to reverse the position but ONeil maintains control. ONeil trying to control but he's not successful this time. David Shields has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. ONeil prevents Shields from getting the reversal. ONeil misses with a head shot. Shields is working to get back to half guard.
Shields is squirming around, avoiding ONeil's attempts to control the action. Shields wants to hold on but ONeil pushes him away. ONeil sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Shields gets back to half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shields actively working from the bottom here. Shields works his way to full guard. Good work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but David Shields will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on David Shields's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

ONeil looks to score with a jab to the body but Shields is just out of range. Shields missing with a left hand there. ONeil was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Shields cracks the inside of ONeil's front leg. ONeil chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Shields can pounce on him.
Shields ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. ONeil looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Shields thows a left - swing and a miss! Mickey ONeil is winning the standup battle so far. Shields throws a jab when ONeil was well out of range. Shields scores with a jab. ONeil acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Shields throws a hook to the side of ONeil's head but ONeil sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. ONeil tries to land a front kick but Shields steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Shields dips to his left and cracks ONeil with an uppercut! Shields looks to score with a jab to the body but ONeil is just out of range.

ONeil is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shields. ONeil throws a lazy right hand but Shields sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. ONeil closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Shields looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Shields lands a couple of decent looking shots. Shields sitting in guard, not really doing much. ONeil is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shields postures up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Mickey ONeil just wasn't active enough. ONeil lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Shields misses with a body shot.
ONeil gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. ONeil misses with a knee to the head. Shields wants to get back to striking at distance but ONeil won't allow it.

Shields lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. ONeil scores with a nice head shot.
That has opened up David Shields's cut even more. ONeil thows a leg kick but Shields checks it and Shields makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shields cracks a nice hook into ONeil's ribs. Shields throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Shields misses with a straight left. Shields throws a body punch but ONeil moves out of range. Shields throws a body punch but ONeil moves out of range. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. ONeil scoring well with a low kick there.
Shields lands with a shot to the body. ONeil throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. ONeil wants to clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to David Shields. I think Shields has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
