The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kershick closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hitter's guard. Hitter trying to strike off his back.
Hitter wants to sweep here but Kershick controlling him for the moment. Kershick slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Hitter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kershick is one step ahead there. Hitter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Hitter is adopting a defensive guard. Hitter trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Heavy Hitter just wasn't active enough. Kershick shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hitter napping and manages to drive through into side control!
