The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Nice jab there from Califf.
Smith shoots in for a double leg but Califf sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Califf shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Califf fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.
Smith is trying to pull guard but Califf turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Califf manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith has gone for a leg lock! Califf slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.
Califf wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Califf with a flurry of punches that miss.
Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Califf can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smith pushes a forearm under Califf's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Califf is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
