Malenko is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tap Or SNap by E-town Concrete. Lou Strongback has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Malenko! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Malenko fails with the takedown and Malenko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Strongback swinging wildly here.
Strongback lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Malenko backs up against the ropes.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Malenko. Malenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Lou Strongback has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dean Malenko. A punch combination from Strongback misses. Strongback fails to land with a series of punches.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Strongback tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Malenko was well out of range. Poor timing from Strongback. The fighters circling - Strongback throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Nice sprawl there from Strongback as Malenko shoots in.

Strongback closes the distance and pushes Malenko back into the ropes. Malenko is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Strongback is defending well. Malenko has clasped his hands together around Strongback's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Strongback is looking for a sweep. Malenko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Malenko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Strongback knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Malenko on the ground. Malenko wants to control but Strongback is keeping him busy. Malenko prevents Strongback from escaping the position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Malenko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Strongback, who protects the arm well. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Malenko is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Strongback is trying to escape and Malenko transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Strongback is forced to tap! Nice work there by Malenko! Very nice indeed!
