Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Attonitto Silva! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harold Jennings! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva tries for a takedown but Jennings circles away easily and Jennings counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jennings gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Jennings avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jennings loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jennings gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Silva stuffs the takedown. Jennings misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Jennings manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Silva circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jennings throws a head kick that misses. Jennings forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jennings's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Jennings is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Attonitto Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Silva wants to take the fight to the mat but Jennings manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Silva goes for a takedown attempt but Jennings pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jennings throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jennings! Jennings is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jennings is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Silva locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Jennings is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Attonitto Silva! Attonitto Silva retains his featherweight title! Attonitto Silva decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
