PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Fire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Unigu Rege (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tommy Fire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Unigu Rege!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rege tries to clinch but Fire is having none of it.
Fire displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rege.
Fire fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rege will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fire changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rege tries to avoid it but Fire manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rege to the ground. Rege escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fire displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rege.
Tommy Fire has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Unigu Rege.
Rege fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rege tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fire sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rege somewhat.
Rege shoots for a takedown but Fire saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rege fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fire stuffs the takedown attempt from Rege. Rege gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck for Fire with that takedown attempt.
Rege throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fire's waist but Fire gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rege off to one side.

Rege changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fire looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rege decides to stand back up. Rege steps back and let's Fire get back to his feet.
Rege looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fire is fending him off so far but Rege persists. Nope, Fire circles away and we're back to standing.
Fire with a poor takedown
and Rege counters with a one-two to the body.
Fire shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rege defends it nicely.
Fire fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rege avoids it really well and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rege shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rege was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rege prevents Fire from getting the reversal.
Fire regains half guard.

Rege wants to work for an arm triangle but Fire is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Rege is looking for a kimura here.

Rege is working for a kimura but Fire is defending it quite comfortably.

Fire is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rege pulls his head out easily.
Fire misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Rege perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rege is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fire is just riding it out for now. Rege eventually gives up the hold.

Rege gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Fire gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rege decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fire's guard.

Fire looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Rege passes into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rege stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fire is defended easily by Rege.
Rege tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fire swivels and escapes.

Rege drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rege wants to control from the top but Fire keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rege trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rege slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rege controls the position from side control.

Fire is not content to let Rege control the position.
Rege scores with punches from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rege wants to control but Fire is keeping him busy.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Rege decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Fire shoots in looking for a takedown but Rege manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fire's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Fire displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rege.
Rege shoots in looking for a takedown. Fire tries to sprawl out of it but Rege keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fire manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tommy Fire has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Unigu Rege.

Rege shoots for a takedown but Fire saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Fire shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rege but Rege pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fire has his takedown stuffed
and Rege counters with a left and a right that stings Fire.
Nice takedown defense from Rege. No joy for Fire on that attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rege gets full guard.
Fire stopping the sweep attempt from Rege.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rege has his hands on Fire's head, controlling the position.
Fire stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rege swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rege is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Unigu Rege showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Rege shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rege wants to free his trapped foot but Fire is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Unigu Rege has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rege wants to take a breather but Fire is having none of it.

Rege stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Fire to get to his feet.
Fire shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rege as he jumps to the side.
Rege is looking to clinch.
Fire fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fire gets caught napping as Rege dives in and scores a takedown. Fire manages to retain guard.

Rege decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fire looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Fire. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fire tries for a takedown but Rege circles away easily

so Rege counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Fire working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rege doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rege manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rege tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rege has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fire is not content to let Rege control the position.
Rege just content to control the position.
Unigu Rege is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rege is chipping away with strikes.

Rege stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fire shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rege sprawls well. Rege wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fire gets slowly back to his feet.
Fire tries for a takedown but Rege sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Rege counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fire won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fire is letting Rege control him for a moment.
Tommy Fire has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Unigu Rege comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rege has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
