PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Mack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mack's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Ships in the night-Mat Kearney. James is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tuesday's Gone. Tommy James is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Mack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy James!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mack throws a left and a right that both miss

and James counters with a single leg into guard. Mack didn't expect that.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Mack working for a triangle but James defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
James distracts Mack with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mack is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well.
Mack wants to sweep here but James controlling him for the moment.
James is looking to work some ground and pound but Mack has wrist control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mack not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mack trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mack's guard.
James prevents Mack from improving his position.
James working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mack is on top in guard.

Mack pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now.
Mack trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mack works a leg free and moves into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mack trying to control the action but James is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mack looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Mack is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James controlling the position well.
Mack thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed James's head.
James controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mack not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
James works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mack wants to stand but James has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Mack throws a big elbow that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mack trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy James dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mack looks for a takedown but James sprawls well.

James moves into the clinch successfully.

James is trying to trip Mack. He has hold of a leg but Mack is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. James persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
James stands up over Mack, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
James is in close to Mack's body, working some short punches and elbows.
James makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tommy James has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells James's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mack looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James passes Mack's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mack tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
James is nestled in close to Mack, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
James looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mack with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. James lands a nice short elbow.


Mack is rocked!
James lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Mack quite badly. Mack pulls James in close trying to recover. James postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Mack on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Mack doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tommy James!
In his post fight interview, Tommy James gave a big smile as he said 'I want to thank you guys for coming out tonight, my team at Nacho Libre Gym, all of my loved ones back home and King Justus for letting me fight here in the OFC!!'.
