Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Hawks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Louie Resto! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Resto wants to clinch so Hawks counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Hawks is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hawks trying to control the position from guard on top but Resto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hawks is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Resto is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Resto has escaped and now he's on top! Resto is looking to stand up but Hawks won't let him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hawks is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hawks manages to escape and get back to his feet.
No joy there for Resto, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Resto tries to clinch but Hawks is having none of it. Resto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Resto rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hawks moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Resto misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hawks darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hawks has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Resto defend it? Hawks steps over the head and cranks it - Resto is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hawks!
