Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andy Crokan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hank Reardon! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Crokan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reardon but Reardon pushes him off and we're back to square one. Crokan fails with a takedown attempt. Crokan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reardon as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Crokan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Crokan tries to clinch up but Reardon circles away and keeps his distance. Crokan doesn't manage to clinch there - Reardon circles away.
Reardon shoots in and bounces Crokan off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard. Crokan is looking to stand up but Reardon isn't so interested in that idea. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Reardon trying to control but Crokan is working from the bottom. Reardon throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reardon is stalling in the full guard. Crokan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Reardon trying to control the position from guard on top but Crokan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Reardon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Crokan is keeping the position for now. Reardon wants to control from the top but Crokan keeps moving.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Crokan tries to close the distance and clinch but Reardon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Crokan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Reardon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Crokan manages to avoid it. Reardon wants to clinch up but Crokan keeps it at a distance. Crokan fails to land the takedown. Reardon lands a huge takedown. Crokan is out but the ref is slow to react and Reardon lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Crokan lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hank Reardon!
