PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Chon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrus Laane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Laane has chosen Akon - Never Gonna Get It as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Chon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrus Laane!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laane avoids the head kick by Chon.

Chon gets tackled into the ropes by Laane. Laane maintains the clinch.
Chon tries to pull guard but Laane holds him up against the ropes and eventually Chon drops back down to his feet.

Laane breaks from the clinch.
Chon throws the left hand but Laane avoids the punch easily.
Laane scores with a jab to the body.
Chon fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Laane is out of range.
Laane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Chon misses with a two punch combination.

Laane takes the fight into the clinch.

Laane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Laane throws a series of strikes that have Chon backpedaling.
Chon takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chon takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Chon throws a body kick that misses.
Laane lands with a nice body punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Laane moves away.
A lazy body kick from Chon
and Laane counters with an inside leg kick.
Laane shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Chon eats them both and turns towards Laane to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Chon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Andrus Laane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laane digs a good hook to Chon's body.
Chon lands a jab.
Chon throws a hook but Laane avoids it easily.
Laane throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Chon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Chon falls off balance throwing a combination

and Laane holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Chon is trying to break the clinch but Laane is controlling him.

Laane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Laane rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Chon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Chon pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Laane rushes Chon and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Laane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Laane clinches up against the ropes.

Laane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Decent striking displayed by Laane there.

Laane moves into the clinch.

Laane pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chon keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Laane fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Laane throws a leg kick which misses Chon's front leg but catches the back leg as Chon tries to avoid it.
Laane thows a body shot but no joy.
The fighters circling - Chon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Laane misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Laane drives through and clinches with Chon against the ropes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Laane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chon takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A cross from Chon lands.
Laane lands a glancing blow to the side of Chon's head.
A lazy left from Laane finds it's target.

Laane has managed to clinch.
Chon tries to pull guard but Laane forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.

Laane pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Laane throws a series of punches but Chon avoids them all with ease.
Chon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chon on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Chon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Laane circles away quickly and effectively.
Chon gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Laane is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Laane buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chon throws a nice looking combination but Laane bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Laane goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Chon takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Laane has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Laane is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Chon had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Chon avoids the body shot from Laane.
Laane gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.


Laane is rocked!
Laane tries to close the distance and clinch but Chon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Laane is still on wobbly legs! Can Chon finish him?
Laane throws a nice head kick!

Laane drives through and clinches with Chon against the ropes.
Laane seems to have recovered his senses.

Laane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Laane misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Chon moves forwards but Laane connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Chon throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Laane connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Chon looks to score with a jab to the body but Laane is just out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrus Laane dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Laane misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nice defenses there by Laane.
No joy there for Chon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Laane gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Laane manages to break the clinch.
Laane lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Andrus Laane seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fight stays on the outside here - Laane looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Laane throws a right and a left that both miss.
A combination from Chon does no damage.
Laane buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Chon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Chon looks to land a combination but Laane avoids it well.
Daniel Chon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chon dodges the punch combination from Laane.
Chon takes a swing at Laane's ribcage but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Laane. Chon does a little dance to reset his feet.
Laane lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Chon is rocked!
Laane drops Chon with a big left hand! Chon is injured, injured bad! Laane jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrus Laane!
