Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Morales! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aleksandr Progbeniak! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Progbeniak closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Morales's guard. Progbeniak looking to sit in guard and control but Morales gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Morales might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Progbeniak is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Morales is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Progbeniak has an active guard here but Morales has managed to pass into half guard.
Progbeniak is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Morales pulls his head out easily. Progbeniak has one foot on Morales's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morales rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Progbeniak moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Morales throws a combination that misses and Progbeniak counters with a single leg into guard. Morales didn't expect that. Progbeniak wants to control from the top but Morales keeps moving. Progbeniak looking to pass the guard. Progbeniak trying to control but Morales is working from the bottom. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Progbeniak drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Morales manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Progbeniak has Morales in his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Progbeniak keeping moving, preventing Morales from controlling successfully. Morales not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Progbeniak wants to stand and escape but Morales is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Progbeniak tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Morales swivels and escapes. No luck for Progbeniak with that takedown attempt. Progbeniak shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Carlos Morales has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksandr Progbeniak. Progbeniak will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A punch combination from Morales misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. No luck for Morales with that takedown attempt. Progbeniak fails with a takedown attempt. Morales goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Morales fails to land the takedown. Progbeniak with a poor takedown and Morales counters with a crisp one two that drops Progbeniak! Morales thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Progbeniak to his feet! Progbeniak is in big trouble! Progbeniak looks gassed! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Morales lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Progbeniak shoots in for a double leg but Morales sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Progbeniak fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Morales throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Morales throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Progbeniak shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Morales sprawls well. Morales wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Progbeniak gets slowly back to his feet. Morales closes the distance and pushes Progbeniak back into the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morales has Progbeniak pressed against the cage, preventing Progbeniak from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Progbeniak tries for a takedown. No joy.
Morales can't break the clinch.
Progbeniak has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Morales after a bit of a struggle. Morales wants to break free but Progbeniak has control.
Morales's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Morales throws a leg kick but Progbeniak checks it. Morales connects with a nice looking jab.
It looks like Aleksandr Progbeniak has been cut. I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Morales has cracked Progbeniak with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Morales lands another huge swinging hook and Progbeniak tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Progbeniak, before Morales can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Carlos Morales!
