Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martez Cortega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Avalon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avalon is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Harder Better Faster - Daft Punk. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Martez Cortega! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Avalon! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Avalon lands a body shot.
Avalon takes a shot right to the bread basket. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cortega is defended easily by Avalon. Avalon doesn't manage to clinch there - Cortega circles away.
Avalon throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cortega sees it coming and avoids it easily. Cortega moves out of range of the leg kick from Avalon. Cortega closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Avalon misses with the combination.
Nice takedown defense from Avalon. No joy for Cortega on that attempt. Cortega has his takedown stuffed and Avalon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martez Cortega. That's going to take a lot out of him. Avalon misses with a low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avalon tries to clinch up. Cortega with a poor takedown and Avalon counters with a two punch combo. Cortega stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Avalon. Avalon doesn't manage to clinch there - Cortega circles away.
Avalon throws a right and a left that both miss. Cortega uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Avalon. Avalon swings and misses with a shot to the body and Cortega connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
It looks like James Avalon has been cut. Avalon throws an overhand right that lands on Cortega's shoulder, as Cortega tries to avoid the shot. Cortega shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Cortega takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cortega gets a double leg takedown into Avalon's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Avalon has his foot on Cortega's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cortega works his way back into a safe position though. Avalon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Avalon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cortega is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cortega wants to control from the top but Avalon keeps moving. Cortega postures up in Avalon's guard and throws a big left but Avalon blocks it. Avalon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Cortega working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Avalon's head. Avalon manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Cortega is trying to stand. Cortega bucks up and throws Avalon to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Cortega avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cortega thows a body shot but no joy. Donk. Avalon catches Cortega right on the button with a cross.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avalon rushes Cortega and presses him up against the cage. Cortega has Avalon pushed against the cage. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Avalon lands a nice uppercut. Cortega fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Avalon lands on the inside with an uppercut. Avalon breaks the clinch.
Avalon misses with a straight left. Cortega shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Avalon as he jumps to the side. Avalon scores with a nice strike. The fight moves into the clinch position. Cortega doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Cortega tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Avalon just stands there and leans against the cage. Avalon lands on the inside with an uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Avalon can't find room to land a body shot as Cortega controls the action.
Cortega jumps into guard, dragging Avalon to the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Avalon trying to control but Cortega is working from the bottom. Cortega wants to get back to his feet but Avalon is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Avalon trying to control but Cortega is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Avalon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cortega wants to stand and escape but Avalon is having none of it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Avalon trying to control but Cortega is working from the bottom. Cortega being controlled here, momentarily.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Avalon wasn't active enough on the ground. Avalon moves into range and connects with a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but James Avalon will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on James Avalon's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Nice body punch from Avalon. Avalon throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Avalon misses the shot to the body. Avalon dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cortega. That did some damage! Cortega fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Avalon's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cortega under the eye. Avalon pivots, looking for a leg kick but Cortega is out of range and Avalon settles back down. Cortega drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Avalon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Cortega got a little sloppy there for a moment and Avalon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cortega has managed to get both his arms back between Avalon's legs - danger averted. This has been an exciting period of action! Cortega loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Cortega working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avalon throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cortega content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Avalon trying to keep a closed guard but Cortega is proving a slippery customer.
Cortega stopping the sweep attempt from Avalon. Avalon controls Cortega momentarily but Cortega frees himself. Cortega works over Avalon with some ground and pound from guard. Avalon looking for a sweep. Not yet Avalon, not yet. Cortega working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Avalon manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Avalon is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cortega is surviving well by controlling Avalon's body position as best he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avalon wants to finish this one by submission but Cortega is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Avalon. Cortega is trying to stand. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Avalon is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cortega is surviving well by controlling Avalon's body position as best he can. Avalon tries to control but Cortega wriggling away. Cortega is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Avalon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cortega is looking to escape. Avalon looking to secure an arm triangle but Cortega defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortega wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Cortega tries to buck Avalon off but Avalon takes his back! Cortega is trying to get back to his feet but Avalon has full control of the position and if anything, Cortega has just worked his way into a worse spot. Cortega prevents Avalon from getting a body triangle. Cortega holding both Avalon 's hands and preventing any damage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Avalon's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Avalon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cortega kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Cortega is trying to shake Avalon off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Avalon won't be happy about giving up the dominant position. Avalon misses with an uppercut
and Cortega counters with a takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Avalon is trying to improve his position. Avalon defending against the ground and pound. You can see the frustration on Avalon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Cortega working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Avalon manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Avalon wants to work for an arm triangle but Cortega is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Avalon is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Cortega kicks Avalon off and gets back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Martez Cortega will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on James Avalon's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Cortega fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Avalon avoids it really well and circles away. Avalon fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Cortega swats away the attempt to clinch by Avalon. Avalon tries to clinch up. Cortega with a poor takedown letting Avalon counter with a right hand. Cortega shoots in for a takedown but Avalon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avalon moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Avalon cracks a nice hook into Cortega's ribs. Cortega looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Avalon connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cortega. Cortega circles away out of range and recomposes himself. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cortega stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Avalon. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Avalon. Cortega shrugs it off though. Avalon lands a front kick. Avalon stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Avalon connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Cortega is trying hard to land a takedown here. Avalon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Avalon connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Avalon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avalon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Avalon tries to stall but Cortega uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Cortega blocks a body shot from Avalon. Cortega prevents a body shot from Avalon. Cortega presses Avalon against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Cortega is trying to pull guard but Avalon turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Avalon is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Cortega is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Avalon to keep the fight standing. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Cortega. Avalon lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Cortega is rocked! Avalon breaks from the clinch.
Avalon lands the left hand. Oh Cortega is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Avalon cracks Cortega with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Cortega falls to his knees and Avalon doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Avalon! James Avalon looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'That was helluva fight, man. Thank you HMMA for having me in your organization, and to all the fans waving and cheering on me since my old boxing days. To my rival tonight, you have all my respect for this fight.'.
