17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John England! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Berger ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Berger misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from England.
Berger is trying hard to land a takedown here. England sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Berger shoots in looking for a takedown. England tries to sprawl out of it but Berger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. England manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. England connects with a good right hand that stumbles Berger. Berger circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Berger misses with a telegraphed body shot
and England counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. England catches Berger napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Berger to the canvas!
It looks like Dieter Berger has been cut. England must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Berger is looking for a triangle but England pushes his legs off easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! England wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! That's three minutes gone in the round. England is not content to let Berger control the position. Berger misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's four minutes gone in the round. England is being controlled here. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Berger prevents England from escaping the position. Berger creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Berger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. This has been an exciting period of action! Berger controls the position. Berger is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but England is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Berger wants to lay and pray for a moment but England keeps working. John England dominated that round. The cut man is working on Dieter Berger's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Berger throws an overhand right that lands on England's shoulder, as England tries to avoid the shot. Berger fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Berger throws the left hand but England avoids the punch easily. Berger throws a jab but it's blocked by England. Berger looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for England! England's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Berger jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… England is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by England and Berger has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Dieter Berger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Berger tries to score with some ground and pound. England controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berger throwing strikes but England manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Berger is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Berger is working hard here to advance position. You can see the frustration on Berger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Berger is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked England off and has taken his back! England covering up well under a series of strikes from Berger. England holding both Berger 's hands and preventing any damage. England is trying to defend against the choke here but Berger has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Berger Tightens the hold and England taps out furiously! Berger displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
