PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George St Peirre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Alejandro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peirre has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, George St Peirre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Alejandro!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alejandro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Peirre keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Peirre shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alejandro's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Alejandro is trying to keep Peirre in close.
Peirre trying to control the position from guard on top but Alejandro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Peirre passes Alejandro's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Peirre is thwarting Alejandro's attempts to control the position.

Peirre wants to take a breather but Alejandro is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

That was a close round but I would say that George St Peirre will probably get the nod.

Peirre closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Alejandro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Peirre is keen to just control but Alejandro is a slippery customer.
Peirre looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Alejandro manages to get to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Alejandro doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Alejandro is looking to clinch.
Alejandro swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Alejandro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peirre sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alejandro somewhat.
Peirre shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alejandro as he avoids it easily.
Alejandro misses with a takedown attempt - Peirre sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Peirre decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Peirre wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alejandro keeps working.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Peirre content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up because George St Peirre just wasn't active enough.

Peirre is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Alejandro has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peirre jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Alejandro is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Alejandro and Peirre has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Peirre is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alejandro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Peirre lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Alejandro down.

And that's the end of the fight!
George St Peirre showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Peirre has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

George St Peirre spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
