Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lleyton Stiels! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonny Webbs! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stiels moves in looking to clinch but Webbs pushes him off. Stiels slaps away a takedown attempt from Webbs, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice sprawl there from Stiels as Webbs shoots in. Stiels scores with a three punch combo!
Stiels tries to clinch up. Stiels keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Lleyton Stiels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonny Webbs. Webbs tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stiels sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Webbs somewhat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stiels closes the distance but Webbs moves to the side so Webbs counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Webbs wants to pass the guard but Stiels is keeping the position. Webbs passes into half guard. Stiels knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Webbs on the ground. Webbs tries to pass to full mount but Stiels defends it. Stiels wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Webbs is pressing down on Stiels's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stiels is holding on for now. Webbs frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Webbs has hold of Stiels's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stiels manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Webbs wants to take Stiels's back here but Stiels is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Stiels is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Webbs has taken his back.
Webbs is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Stiels has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Webbs looking for the choke from the back. Webbs is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Stiels won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Webbs off his unconscious opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jonny Webbs! Jonny Webbs retains his bantamweight title! In his post fight interview, Jonny Webbs started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
