PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hodson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Five Sixteen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hodson comes to the cage accompanied by Break Some Off by KoRn. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Hodson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew Five Sixteen!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Five Sixteen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hodson is fending him off so far but Five Sixteen persists. Nope, Hodson circles away and we're back to standing.
Five Sixteen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hodson as he jumps to the side.
Hodson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Five Sixteen.
Five Sixteen throws a low kick but it's checked well by Hodson.

Five Sixteen fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hodson to the ground. Five Sixteen is now in Hodson's guard.
Hodson wants to stand and escape but Five Sixteen is having none of it.

Five Sixteen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hodson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Five Sixteen has Hodson in his guard.

Five Sixteen is pressing down on Hodson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hodson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Five Sixteen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hodson stacks Five Sixteen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hodson!

Hodson is in a bad position with Five Sixteen working for a choke. Hodson manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Five Sixteen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hodson manages to get himself to full guard.

Five Sixteen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hodson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hodson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Hodson throws a nice looking combination but Five Sixteen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hodson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hodson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hodson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Five Sixteen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Five Sixteen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hodson sprawls well. Hodson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Five Sixteen gets slowly back to his feet.
Matt Hodson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Five Sixteen.

Five Sixteen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hodson on his heels. He'll look to pass Hodson's guard now, I'm sure.
Five Sixteen wants to control from the top but Hodson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Five Sixteen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hodson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Five Sixteen, into his guard.

Matthew Five Sixteen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Five Sixteen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hodson is just riding it out for now. Five Sixteen eventually gives up the hold.

Matthew Five Sixteen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matt Hodson.
I think Five Sixteen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
