Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Lockley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Safire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lockley comes to the cage accompanied by Disney's Gummy Bears Intro (Rus). The key to victory for Kevin Lockley has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Lockley!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fred Safire!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Safire has taken the fight to the clinch.
Safire blocking some punches.
Lockley lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Lockley tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Safire avoids it.
Safire landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Lockley looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Safire gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Lockley regains guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Safire postures up in Lockley's guard and throws a big left but Lockley blocks it.
Safire stopping the sweep attempt from Lockley.
Safire wants to control from the top but Lockley keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Safire working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Safire tries to free his leg and advance position but Lockley is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lockley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lockley avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Safire postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lockley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Safire drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Safire jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Safire stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lockley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Safire is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Lockley preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Safire trying to control the position from guard on top but Lockley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Safire is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lockley manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Lockley prevents Safire from getting the reversal.
Lockley looking to control and managing it successfully.

Safire working to try and regain half guard.
Lockley trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Safire is looking to improve his position but Lockley isn't that keen on the idea.
Safire is squirming around, avoiding Lockley's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Safire displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lockley throws out the jab.

It looks like Fred Safire has been cut.
Safire shoots in looking for a takedown but Lockley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Safire's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lockley gets back to full guard.
Safire tries to free his leg and advance position but Lockley is retaining full guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Safire shoots in but no luck this time.
Kevin Lockley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Safire shoots in for a double leg but Lockley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Safire closes the distance and clinches up with Lockley, looking for a takedown. Safire pushes Lockley against the cage but Lockley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lockley darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Safire has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Lockley.
Lockley fails to land with a series of punches.
Lockley misses with a few strikes there.

Safire gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Safire shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Safire seems to be looking for submissions.

Safire throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Lockley to regain full guard.
Lockley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Safire's guard.

Safire is looking for a triangle but Lockley pushes his legs off easily.
Safire keeping moving, preventing Lockley from controlling successfully.
Safire seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lockley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Safire swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lockley defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Safire.
Lockley throws a wild body kick that Safire sees coming a mile off.
Lockley lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.


That has opened up Fred Safire's cut even more.
Safire shoots in looking for a takedown. Lockley tries to sprawl out of it but Safire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lockley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Safire throws a sloppy head kick and Lockley moves out of range easily.
Safire wants to clinch up but Lockley keeps it at a distance.
Safire fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kevin Lockley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fred Safire.
Safire takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Safire takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Safire on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Lockley. Lockley obviously looking to wear him down.
Safire takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lockley lands a leg kick that knocks Safire off balance momentarily.

A shot to the liver by Lockley. Beautiful body shot.
Lockley is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Lockley lands a jab.


The cut above Fred Safire's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Lockley feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Safire sprawling to the canvas! Safire rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Lockley finish him?!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fred Safire's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Kevin Lockley!
Kevin Lockley retains his heavyweight title!
