Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sunny Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Ponting! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Day shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ponting sprawls well. Ponting wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Day gets slowly back to his feet. Day on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ponting closes the distance and lands a one-two. Ricky Ponting seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ponting catches Day with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Nice sprawl there from Ponting as Day shoots in. Ponting pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Decent striking displayed by Ponting there. Ponting misses with a looping left. Day shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ponting as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sunny Day. That's going to take a lot out of him. Day closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Ponting shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Day's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Day trying to keep a closed guard but Ponting is proving a slippery customer.
Ponting passes into half guard. Ponting winds up and cracks Day with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Day is trying to control but can't.
Ponting is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Ponting sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Day defending well though. That's two minutes gone in the round. Ponting lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Ponting thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Day's head. Ponting throwing shots but Day is blocking nicely. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ponting is keen to just control but Day is a slippery customer. Day blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ponting. Day has hold of Ponting's hands but Ponting slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Ponting missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Ponting blocks the strikes from Day.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Ponting throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Day is staying active underneath Ponting, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Day avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ponting. Ponting lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Ponting missing with the ground and pound from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Ponting dominated that round. That's time! Day's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Ponting throws out a loose jab but Day uses good head movement to avoid it. Ponting slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Ponting digs a good body shot into Day's ribs. Day on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Day shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ponting sprawls well. Ponting wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Day gets slowly back to his feet. Day takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. A jab from Ponting does it's job there. Day with a poor takedown and Ponting counters with a straight right hand. Day moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Ponting throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Day on the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ponting manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Ponting scores with a takedown into Day's guard. Day has his foot on Ponting's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ponting works his way back into a safe position though. Ponting trying to control the position from guard on top but Day is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ponting working some strikes from top position. Day will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Day wants to stand but Ponting is controlling the position. Ponting manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Day isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ponting stacks Day on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ponting! Day trying to remain calm as Ponting controls from the top position. Ponting tries to move to mount but Day blocks the move with his legs. Ponting cracks Day with a big elbow. Day is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ponting's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Day is not content to let Ponting control the position. Ponting thows a huge punch but Day dodges it nicely.

Day is rocked! Day is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. BOOM! Ponting connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Oh Day is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Day tries to hold on but Ponting postures up. Day seems to have got his legs back now. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! A nice elbow there by Ponting. Day is desperately trying to improve his position but Ponting has a good base and remains in mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Ponting showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Day working for a submission but Ponting is keeping him at bay. Day misses with a head shot. Ponting wants to control but Day is having none of it. Day with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Ponting wants to hold on but Day pushes him away. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Day cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Day looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Day sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Ponting is controlling an arm, preventing Day from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Day takes Ponting's back. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Day tightening his grip on Ponting, looking for the choke. Ponting tries to escape the position.
Sunny Day has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Day has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ponting has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Ponting covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Ponting manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ponting cracks Day with an open hand slap. Ponting drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ponting trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Day keeping moving, preventing Ponting from controlling successfully. Ponting is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Sunny Day showed his dominance in that final round. Well Ponting has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
