Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nathan Bowman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Henry Wotton! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bowman tries for a takedown but Wotton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Bowman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Wotton is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wotton looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bowman misses with a head shot. Wotton uses the momentum to regain guard. Bowman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Bowman wants to control from the top but Wotton keeps moving. Bowman landing some decent shots from guard. Bowman wants to control from the top but Wotton keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wotton keeping full guard, as Bowman tries to pass. Bowman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wotton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wotton has escaped and now he's on top! Wotton drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bowman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wotton has Bowman in his guard. Bowman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wotton has his feet on Bowman's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Bowman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wotton but Wotton pushes him off and we're back to square one. Wotton takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bowman is looking to clinch. Wotton throws an off balance right hand
and Bowman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bowman. Bowman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wotton to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Bowman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bowman breaks from the clinch.
Wotton takes a shot right to the bread basket. This has been an exciting period of action! Bowman scores with a punch to the head. Bowman fails to land the takedown. Wotton lands with a straight right. Bowman didn't see that one coming. Bowman wants to clinch. Bowman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Bowman throws a strike aimed at the side of Wotton's head but Wotton avoids it well. Bowman working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bowman working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Bowman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Bowman is trying to get an arm triangle but Wotton is defending well. Bowman is looking to take a break and control but Wotton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bowman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wotton has escaped the position, nice work there. Bowman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wotton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Bowman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bowman throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Wotton works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bowman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Bowman is working for a submission of some sort.
Bowman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bowman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nathan Bowman dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Wotton throws a looping overhand right but Bowman ducks down to avoid it. Bowman connects with a good right hand that stumbles Wotton. Wotton circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Bowman throws out a powerful jab.
Wotton is rocked! Bowman dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Wotton has had enough and taps out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Nathan Bowman! After the big win, Nathan Bowman made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Cyclone Nutrition Company and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
