Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Redding! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Victor Nikkoms! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nikkoms darts in and clinches Redding up against the cage. Redding looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Redding lands a body punch. Nikkoms gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Redding regains guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Redding tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nikkoms wants to pass the guard but Redding is keeping the position. Nikkoms decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Redding throws a leg kick that is checked and Nikkoms decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Redding's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nikkoms gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Redding gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nikkoms to score an easy takedown into full guard. Nikkoms content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Nikkoms stays in close to Redding's body and controls the position. Nikkoms decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nikkoms has Redding up against the cage in a clinch.
Nikkoms turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nikkoms manages to end up in side control. Nikkoms scoring with punches and elbows. Nikkoms passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Redding! Nikkoms get's back to his feet. Nikkoms decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nikkoms in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Redding tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Nikkoms!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Victor Nikkoms! Our winner, Victor Nikkoms, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
