PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Funk McTavish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Multi Punch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McTavish has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Funk McTavish! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Multi Punch! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McTavish shoots in for a double leg but Punch sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. McTavish changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Punch tries to avoid it but McTavish manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Punch to the ground. Punch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. McTavish is looking to clinch but Punch is avoiding it.
Punch drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McTavish takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. McTavish is breathing heavily. McTavish taking punishment in the form of punches.
Punch wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McTavish, who protects the arm well. McTavish is trying to control Punch's posture but Punch avoids it. Punch lands some shots froms side control. Punch cracks McTavish with a big elbow. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McTavish is letting Punch control him for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Punch working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Punch remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Punch is looking to take a break and control but McTavish is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. McTavish is looking to reverse the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Punch looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Punch working the ground and pound. Check out the look on Punch's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Punch in side control lands a decent elbow. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. McTavish takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! Punch thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. McTavish is letting Punch control him for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Punch works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Punch wants to lay and pray for a moment but McTavish keeps working. Punch lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Punch landing strikes. Punch is looking to take a break and control but McTavish is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Punch taking a breather here. It looks like Punch might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Punch controls the position. Punch in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Punch landing strikes. Punch is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McTavish is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Punch working the head and body with strikes. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Multi Punch dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Punch misses with a looping left. McTavish throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Punch's waist but Punch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McTavish off to one side. McTavish looks for a takedown but Punch sprawls well. Punch darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Punch seems to be working for a kimura but McTavish defends the submission attempt. Punch throwing shots but McTavish is blocking nicely. Punch is controlling the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Punch is looking to advance position but McTavish won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Punch trying to control the pace. McTavish trying to control but Punch postures up.
Ground and pound from Punch. McTavish has hold of Punch's hands but Punch slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Punch lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Ground and pound from Punch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Punch seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McTavish does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Punch is taking a breather. McTavish says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Punch is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McTavish sees it coming and defends easily. Punch tries to pass the half guard into mount. McTavish knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Punch has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Punch content to control rather than advance. Punch is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for McTavish! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Punch unloading with bombs!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Punch takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Punch lands with some vicious ground and pound - can McTavish hang on? Punch controlling his opponent. Multi Punch has got the better of the ground game so far. BOOM! Punch connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Punch controlling from mount. Punch with the ground and pound from mount. Punch cracks McTavish with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Punch with a couple of short strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Punch raining down hammerfists from mount. McTavish can't escape the position.

McTavish is rocked! Punch lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Oh McTavish is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Punch looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Punch drops a big elbow. That's hurt McTavish! More shots from Punch and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Multi Punch!
