PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Butch Kasparov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Butch Kasparov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mr Ball!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kasparov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ball counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kasparov won't be happy with that.
Kasparov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kasparov is trying to get back to his feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mr Ball hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Ball drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ball should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kasparov is not content to let Ball control the position.

The referee asks Ball politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ball prefers to stall for the moment though.

Ball takes a little break here. Kasparov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Ball has eaten all the pies!

Ball shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kasparov napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Kasparov is looking to get back to his feet here but Ball is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kasparov's back.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mr Ball.

Ball looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ball looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kasparov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kasparov tries to kick Ball off but Ball keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Ball wants to free his trapped foot but Kasparov is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kasparov is refusing to be controlled, as Ball sits in half guard.
Ball is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Ball motions for Kasparov to come forward. Ball throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Ball seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kasparov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mr Ball wasn't active enough on the ground.

Ball closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ball cracks Kasparov with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ball in particular looking to stall.

Ball sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kasparov's guard.

Ball uses his free foot to push down on Kasparov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kasparov.

Butch Kasparov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kasparov shoots for a double leg takedown but Ball sprawls well. He's pushed Kasparov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mr Ball comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ball has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
