Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Atreides!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Metaxa!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Metaxa scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Metaxa darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Atreides avoids a punch combination nicely.

Metaxa lands an elbow inside.


It looks like Paul Atreides has been cut.

Atreides has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Metaxa regains guard immediately.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Metaxa seems keen to control Atreides's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Atreides throwing strikes but missing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Atreides accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Atreides looking to sit in guard and control but Metaxa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Atreides escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Metaxa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Atreides working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Metaxa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Metaxa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Metaxa wants to stand but Atreides has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Metaxa tries to free his leg and advance position but Atreides is retaining full guard.

Atreides looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Metaxa passes into half guard.
Metaxa wants to control but Atreides is keeping him busy.
Metaxa is controlling the pace.

Atreides is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Martin Metaxa.
Atreides tries for a takedown but Metaxa sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Atreides tries to score a power double leg takedown but Metaxa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Atreides somewhat.
Metaxa throws a leg kick

and Atreides counters with a single leg into guard. Metaxa didn't expect that.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Atreides throwing strikes from guard but Metaxa blocks nicely.
Atreides landing with the ground and pound.
Atreides throws a strike but Metaxa rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Atreides working for a triangle but Metaxa defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Atreides will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Paul Atreides's cut.
That's time! Atreides's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Atreides swats away the attempt to clinch by Metaxa.
Metaxa stuffs the takedown.
Metaxa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Atreides has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Metaxa scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Atreides takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Atreides shoots in but Metaxa avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A bone on bone clash there as Atreides blocks the leg kick.
Martin Metaxa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Metaxa throws a sloppy head kick and Atreides moves out of range easily.
A jab from Metaxa does it's job there.
Metaxa pivots, looking for a leg kick but Atreides is out of range and Metaxa settles back down.
Atreides gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Metaxa counters with a left and a right that stings Atreides.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Atreides. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice shot lands for Metaxa.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Atreides shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Metaxa defends it nicely.
Atreides avoids the head kick by Metaxa.

Metaxa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Atreides moves away.
Atreides shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Metaxa as he jumps to the side.
Metaxa works over Atreides's head and body with a nice combination.

and Atreides counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Atreides postures up.
Atreides trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Atreides stands up over Metaxa, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Metaxa is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Atreides drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Metaxa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Atreides has Metaxa in his guard.

Atreides had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Metaxa defends it easily.
Metaxa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Atreides is keeping the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Atreides is looking for a triangle here but Metaxa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Metaxa has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Metaxa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Metaxa misses with a low kick.
Metaxa throws a body kick that misses.
Metaxa lands with a hook. Atreides tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Metaxa fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Atreides checks it well.
Metaxa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Atreides moves away.
Metaxa connects with a solid leg kick.
Metaxa does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Metaxa throws out a loose jab but Atreides uses good head movement to avoid it.
Atreides tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Metaxa throws a push kick but Atreides slaps the foot to one side.
Metaxa connects with a leg kick. Atreides looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Atreides is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Metaxa takes a swing at Atreides's ribcage but misses.
Atreides walks into a straight right hand from Metaxa.
A clash of legs there as Atreides blocks the low kick.
Martin Metaxa seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Metaxa scores with a hook to the body. Atreides takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Atreides walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Metaxa fails with an attempt to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Metaxa.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Atreides avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Metaxa closes the distance and clinches.

Metaxa is pressed up against the cage. Atreides has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Metaxa down to the mat. Metaxa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Metaxa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Metaxa misses with an uppercut.
Metaxa leaves Atreides with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Martin Metaxa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A nice inside leg kick there by Metaxa. That's going to slow Atreides down.
Some bone on bone action there as Atreides checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Paul Atreides is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Atreides needs to keep his hands up - Metaxa had a free shot at his head there.
Metaxa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Metaxa looks to land a right hand but Atreides moved out of range.

Atreides shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Metaxa pinned against the cage. Metaxa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Atreides. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Metaxa misses with a low kick as Atreides jumps back.
Metaxa with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Atreides shoots in for a takedown but Metaxa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Metaxa feints with a left and delivers a massive head kick! Atreides collapses like a ragdoll! Game over!

A relieved looking Martin Metaxa thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
