PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Krzysztof Krzak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Hannedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walter Hannedy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Krzysztof Krzak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Walter Hannedy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krzak throws a jab but it's blocked by Hannedy.
Hannedy defending well as Krzak loads up on a big left hand.
Krzak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hannedy needs to keep his hands up - Krzak had a free shot at his head there.
Hannedy looks to land a combination but Krzak avoids it well.

Hannedy tries to keep at a distance but Krzak has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hannedy blocks an uppercut.

Krzak escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Krzak looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hannedy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Krzak scores with a hook to the body. Hannedy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hannedy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Krzak jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Krzak moves in looking to clinch but Hannedy pushes him off.

Krzak punishes Hannedy's body with a nice straight punch.
Krzak lands a nice shot that snaps Hannedy's head back.
Krzak fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hannedy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Krzak did well to prevent Hannedy getting side control.

Hannedy is working for a kimura but Krzak is defending it quite comfortably.
Krzak is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hannedy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hannedy trying to mount his opponent but Krzak defends it.
Hannedy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Hannedy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Krzak is just riding it out for now. Hannedy eventually gives up the hold.

Hannedy is looking to take a break and control but Krzak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Krzak is controlling Hannedy's trapped leg to prevent Hannedy from advancing to side control.

Krzak is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hannedy.
Hannedy takes a swing at Krzak's ribcage but misses.
Hannedy looks to land a combination but Krzak avoids it well.

Krzak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Krzak wants it to stay on the feet.

Hannedy buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Krzak lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Krzak.


It looks like Walter Hannedy has been cut.

Hannedy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Krzak to the mat! Krzak manages to get full guard.

Krzak has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Krzak lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hannedy!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hannedy tries to hold on but Krzak pushes him away.

Krzak tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hannedy regains half guard.
It looks like Krzak is going to stand back up.
Krzak prevents Hannedy from improving his position.

Krzak seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Hannedy wants to get back to full guard.
Hannedy is trying to maintain the position but Krzak is very close to passing his half guard.

Krzak seems to be working for a kimura but Hannedy defends the submission attempt.
Krzak wants to take a breather but Hannedy is having none of it.

Hannedy looking for subs from the bottom but Krzak mounts him!

Krzak gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Hannedy looks to score with a jab to the body but Krzak is just out of range.
Hannedy closes the distance and clinches up with Krzak, looking for a takedown. Hannedy pushes Krzak against the cage but Krzak circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Krzysztof Krzak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Hannedy.
Krzak throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Krzak jabs at Hannedy's body.
Krzak lands with a shot to the body.
Krzak misses with an uppercut
and Hannedy counters with a lovely shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Krzak lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Hannedy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hannedy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Krzak holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hannedy tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Krzak manages to control the position for a moment.

Hannedy wants to control the pace but Krzak is squirming around nicely.
Krzak can't escape the position.
Hannedy throwing strikes but Krzak uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Hannedy is just content to waste time from the top position. Krzak takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Hannedy trying to control but Krzak is working from the bottom.
Walter Hannedy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Krzak bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hannedy's guard.
Krzak has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hannedy is proving hard to escape from.

Hannedy throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Krzak escapes and throws Hannedy's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hannedy can't do much from the bottom here.

Krzak wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hannedy keeps working.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Krzak stands up.
Hannedy has a takedown stuffed.
Krzysztof Krzak is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Krzak throws the left hand but Hannedy avoids the punch easily.
Walter Hannedy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Krzak connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Krzak lands a really nice looking cross but Hannedy seems unphased.
Walter Hannedy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Krzak displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hannedy.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Krzysztof Krzak.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Krzak, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
