10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arron Gillespie! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Hagen! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hagen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gillespie. Gillespie slaps away a takedown attempt from Hagen, before circling back to the center of the mat. Gillespie slips under a jab from Hagen. Hagen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gillespie is trying to defend but Hagen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Hagen tries to pass to full mount but Gillespie defends it. Hagen throwing shots but Gillespie is blocking nicely. Hagen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Hagen seems to be looking for submissions.
Hagen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hagen wants to work for an arm triangle but Gillespie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hagen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gillespie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hagen on the ground. Hagen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hagen wants to pass to mount but Gillespie is defending the position. Hagen is working for a submission of some sort.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hagen thows a huge punch but Gillespie dodges it nicely.
Hagen wants to take a breather but Gillespie is having none of it. Gillespie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hagen working Gillespie over with strikes. Gillespie is not content to let Hagen control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hagen scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Hagen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Hagen throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gillespie blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hagen. Hagen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gillespie defending well though. Hagen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hagen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Hagen is trying for a kimura here. Gillespie looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Hagen wins by kimura!
