PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mongo Mongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Vallely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vallely has chosen CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings as his entrance music. Mongo Mongo had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Mike Vallely enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Mongo Mongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Vallely!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vallely misses with an uppercut.

Mongo tries to sprawl but Vallely drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vallely lands a nice short elbow.
Mongo is looking to control Vallely's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mongo avoid being mounted?
Mongo tries to get to full guard but Vallely has control of the leg.
Mongo is working hard here to advance position.
Vallely throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Vallely seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Vallely looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Mongo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vallely.
Vallely has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mongo wants to control but Vallely is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Vallely takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vallely is trying to control the action in half guard but Mongo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mongo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Vallely.

A head kick misses from Mongo.
Vallely on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Mongo Mongo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mongo slips a jab from Vallely.
Mongo looks to land a combination. Vallely sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Mongo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Vallely throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mongo has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Mongo Mongo has been cut.
A combination from Mongo does no damage.
Mongo looks to land a left hand but Vallely moved out of range nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vallely connects with a body shot.
Mongo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Vallely.
Mongo thows a leg kick but Vallely checks it
and Vallely connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Vallely does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Nice straight punches there by Mongo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mongo.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Vallely.
Mongo Mongo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mongo looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Vallely displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mongo throws out the jab.
Mongo wants to clinch.
Vallely shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mongo sprawls well. Mongo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vallely gets slowly back to his feet.

Mongo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vallely is one step ahead there.
Vallely trying to control the position from guard on top but Mongo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Vallely slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mongo controls Vallely momentarily but Vallely frees himself.
Vallely won't allow Mongo to sweep him here.
Mongo is trying to control the position but Vallely postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mongo walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Vallely checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Mongo throws a looping overhand right but Vallely ducks down to avoid it.
Mongo misses with a low kick as Vallely jumps back.
Vallely misses with a right hand
and Mongo counters with a good, hard body kick but Vallely shrugs it off.
Vallely throws a nice outside leg kick.
A head kick by Mongo misses
letting Vallely counter with a right hand.
Mongo looks to score with a jab to the body but Vallely is just out of range.
Mongo ducks under a wild hook from Vallely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mongo rushes Vallely and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Vallely changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mongo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mongo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vallely to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mongo trying to keep a closed guard but Vallely is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vallely accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Vallely connects with a couple of short punches.
Vallely engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Vallely postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mongo gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Vallely counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A slow jab from Mongo misses its intended target.
Mongo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vallely moves away.
Vallely lunges at Mongo with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Mongo's hand.
Mongo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Vallely moves out of range as Mongo strikes.
Mike Vallely seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vallely swats away the attempt to clinch by Mongo.

Vallely closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Vallely throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Vallely is taking a breather. Mongo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Vallely is trying to control the action in half guard but Mongo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Vallely is figuring out what he wants to do next.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mongo is staying active underneath Vallely, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Vallely was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Vallely shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Mongo takes a swing at Vallely's ribcage but misses.
Vallely blocks a head kick by Mongo.
Mongo defending well as Vallely loads up on a big left hand.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Mongo Mongo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mike Vallely!
Mike Vallely decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
