Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Takeo Matsukata! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luis Chalas! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matsukata fails to land the takedown. Matsukata fails with an attempt to clinch.
Takeo Matsukata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chalas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Matsukata counters with a takedown into side control. Matsukata trying to control the action but Chalas is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chalas sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Chalas is looking to improve his position.
Matsukata is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Matsukata tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Chalas. Chalas looking for subs from the bottom but Matsukata mounts him!
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsukata thowing shots but they're missing. Chalas holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Matsukata tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Chalas is squirming around, avoiding Matsukata's attempts to control the action. BOOM! Matsukata connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Chalas is wriggling around trying to escape.
Matsukata controlling the pace for now. Matsukata wants to control the pace but Chalas is squirming around nicely. Matsukata prevents Chalas from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matsukata really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Matsukata can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chalas is looking to escape. Chalas working to try and regain half guard.
Chalas wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Matsukata's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Matsukata looking for the RNC. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Matsukata controlling the position well here. Chalas rolled but Matsukata kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matsukata keeps control of the position as Chalas tries to break free.
Chalas is keeping busy.
Chalas tries to roll but Matsukata sticks to his back.
Will Matsukata go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
