Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Cottrell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Lachsford! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cottrell gets in close and instigates a clinch. Lachsford is trying to drag Cottrell to the mat but Cottrell just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Knees in the clinch landing for Lachsford.
Cottrell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lachsford smiles and moves away.
Lachsford keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Lachsford cracks the inside of Cottrell's front leg. Cottrell shoots and misses and Lachsford counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cottrell's guard now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Cottrell. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cottrell holds on and takes a little breather. Lachsford wants to control from the top but Cottrell keeps moving. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cottrell wants to stand but Lachsford is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cottrell is pulling down on Lachsford's head. It's preventing any offense from Lachsford, at least for the moment. Cottrell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Lachsford throws an elbow that misses. Cottrell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lachsford's guard. Nice move by Cottrell! Cottrell decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lachsford, up you get! Cottrell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Cottrell controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cottrell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Lachsford is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lachsford is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cottrell is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Lachsford looks calm but he's in trouble here. Cottrell gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Lachsford is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Cottrell lets go of the hold and Lachsford can pop his arm back in it's socket.
