Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Angero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joseph Von Minoza! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Minoza throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Angero shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Minoza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Minoza manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Angero has closed the distance and engaged Minoza in a clinch.
Minoza tries to circle away but Angero has him pinned against the cage. Minoza wants to break free but Angero has control.
A nice right hand lands inside from Angero. Angero gets a trip takedown into half guard. Angero prevents Minoza from standing back up.
Angero is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Minoza is just riding it out for now. Angero eventually gives up the hold. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Angero is working for a kimura but Minoza is defending it quite comfortably.
That's one minute gone in the round. Angero seems to be working for a kimura but Minoza defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Angero decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Minoza stuffs the takedown. Minoza misses with a hook
and Angero counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Angero is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Minoza still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Minoza has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Minoza wants to stand but Angero has his arm trapped.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Minoza tries to stand but Angero controls the position and pulls Minoza into his guard. Minoza would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Angero on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Angero tries to get out of the position. Angero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Angero is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Minoza to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Minoza shrugs it off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Angero is working for a guillotine from mount but Minoza frees his head quite easily.
Angero has isolated one of Minoza's arms. Minoza looking to fight him off but Angero twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
