Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrej Kavelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geoff Strangle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geoff Strangle has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Andrej Kavelin's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrej Kavelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Geoff Strangle!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strangle shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kavelin counters with a series of strikes. Strangle will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Kavelin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Strangle jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kavelin walks away with a smile on his face. Strangle gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Andrej Kavelin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Geoff Strangle.

Strangle is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kavelin is defending well though. Strangle let's go of the attempt for now.

Kavelin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Strangle is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Strangle has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kavelin has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kavelin is having to fend off submission attempts from Strangle, who is looking to sink in the choke. Strangle doesn't have the hooks in though and Kavelin manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Kavelin wants to pass the guard but Strangle is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrej Kavelin will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kavelin thuds his right hand into Strangle's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Kavelin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kavelin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Geoff Strangle has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kavelin stands and throws Strangle's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kavelin wants to control but Strangle is keeping him busy.

Strangle is not content to let Kavelin control the position.

You can see the frustration on Strangle's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kavelin is looking to take a break and control but Strangle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Strangle is looking to reverse the position.

Kavelin swings around for an armbar but Strangle sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kavelin's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Kavelin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kavelin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Geoff Strangle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kavelin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kavelin tries to close the distance and clinch but Strangle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kavelin is looking to stand up but Strangle isn't so interested in that idea.

Kavelin has his foot on Strangle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Strangle works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Strangle throws an elbow that misses. Kavelin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Strangle's guard. Nice move by Kavelin!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kavelin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
